JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for maintaining security within the County's Detention Center ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides cordial, responsive and accurate customer service.

Makes appropriate record entries for new inmates in the "booking process".

Makes security checks.

Verifies inmate population count.

Transports inmates for various official purposes.

Distributes supplies to inmates.

Maintains logs and records associated with inmate security and rights.

Controls inmate visitors.

Performs inmate searches.

Operates the security control center.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Correction Officer - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) acceptable by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission for certification as a Correctional Officer.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a Class C Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator"s License (or the equivalent from another issuing state) or the ability to obtain such a license within thirty (30) days of employment to position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Typically sits at a desk, computer table or makes rounds within the Detention Center; Walks, stands stoops, lifts, carries, pushes, pulls or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 180 pounds or more.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is generally performed within a correctional facility that has a risk for safety at all times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee periodically works with firearms. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of infection. Subject to outside working situation with inmates.

Noise level is usually moderate but may at times become loud.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities;
Skill in written and verbal communication;
Knowledge of computer applications to successfully complete data entry and word processing tasks;
Ability to correctly use grammar, spelling and punctuation;
Ability to understand and follow clear work instructions.
