Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a permanent CIS 2 position in Food Service. This position is located at Airway Heights Corrections Center and will be working a Sunday through Thursday schedule from 4:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Correctional Industries (CI) is committed to maintain and expand incarcerated work training programs which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics and reduce the tax burden of corrections. This position supports that objective by providing supervision and support to the CISA's on a daily basis. This position will focus on the organization of the daily floor operations which also includes planning, raw material procurement, inventory control, quality control, as well as safety and security of the operation.
Provide supervision and training of incarcerated workers and staff, as assigned:
- Supervise and train incarcerated workers and/or supervise assigned staff in the training of incarcerated workers
- Monitors adherence to HACCP, progressive cooking techniques, portion control, and food quality control measures
- Conduct monthly/weekly/daily staff meetings, conduct one on one’s (PMI’s)
- Provide feedback on staff job performance per policy.
- Document, and provide feedback on incarcerated worker job performance and behavior.
- Direct and assign incarcerated workers.
- Utilize quality control measurements to coordinate efforts during production.
- Coordinate production/scheduling efforts with other staff.
- Develop and operate preventative maintenance schedule for equipment.
- Monitor and verify SOP’s are followed (e.g.: identify and report deficiencies, conduct in-process inspections, verify correct raw material usage)
- Maintain proper recordkeeping for the DOC Safety Program.
- Within established timelines review and investigate accident reports to identify what caused the event and recommend preventive measures.
- Participate in and/or conduct monthly Safety committee/meetings.
- Document safety and sanitation inspections, as required.
- Maintain security and discipline over incarcerated workers in accordance with DOC policy.
- Account for incarcerated workers in accordance with DOC policy; to include: informal counts, reconciliation of call outs, etc.
- Execute and maintain tool control processes according to DOC policy; to include: completion of daily tool accountability log, tool add/drops, shadow board, etc.
- Account for and document the perpetual inventory of consumables items (e.g.: blades, drill bits box cutters etc.)
- Maintain key control per DOC policy, to include: inspect keys, keep on your person at all times, report discrepancies, etc.
- Maintain accurate timekeeping for incarcerated workers, as required, to include: sign in/sign out within Correctional Industries Time Keeping (CITK), reconcile discrepancies, etc.
- Develops or assists in, the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Support continuous process improvement
Required Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent- Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products or equivalent software programs.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in routine and emergent situations.
- Ability to develop and promote positive and professional interpersonal relationships
- Ability to set and manage priorities
- Proficient in HACCP principles
- Two (2) years’ full time work experience in private industry or as a CISA in food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment.
- One (1) year full time work experience at the CISA level AND One (1) year full time work experience in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment.
- One (1) year full time work experience supervising employees, within the past 15 years, in which the supervisory duties including directing the work of work of the employees supervised and providing employee performance feedback.
- Three (3) years full time work experience supervising incarcerated workers within a correctional environment in which the supervisory duties included directing the work of the incarcerated supervised and providing incarcerated worker performance feedback.
- Three (3) or more years’ full time work experience in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment.
- More than two (2) years full time work experience supervising employees within the past 5 years in which the supervisory duties included directing the work of the employees supervised and providing employee performance feedback.
- Three (3) or more years’ full time work experience at the Correctional Industries Supervisor Assistant level in the food service industry.
- An AA degree or Vocational Certificate/degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Resource Planning software (MRP)
- Experience with teaching and training
- Experience working within a correctional facility
