Summer program seeks Coordinator of OUTDOOR GAMES module

The Harriet Tubman Academic Skills Center in the City of Poughkeepsie is offering a summer program for children, ages 5-10 (grade K-5) that live in and near the Tubman Apartment Complex.

The program will run from Monday, July 3th to Friday, July 28th, and meet Monday through Friday, 9:30am to noon. (not meeting on July 4th).

Children registered for the HTASC Summer Camp are divided into 3 groups. The camp schedule has 3 modules (academic fun, arts & crafts, outdoor games), along with snack and gathering and dismissal time.

In preparing activities for the OUTDOOR GAMES module, this person is to consider HTASC’s overall mission of providing a summer program that maintains academic skill levels, develops strong character and creates independent thinkers with a love of learning. Accordingly, activities should be educationally sound while being stimulating, engaging and fun.

Job requirements and Qualifications

• Plan, coordinate and conduct engaging outdoor games for children in grades 1st through 5th. (activities should be 20 minutes in length, repeated for 3 different groups).
• Insure campers are properly supervised at all times
• Differentiate games and activities to meet the needs of students K-5
• Be aware of and implement appropriate safety guidelines for all activities
• Responsible for leading games and activities
• Work well with all age groups
• Follow and uphold all safety and security procedures
• Maintain and organize sports equipment
• Be able to use equipment provided
• Nurture sportsmanship and promote a fun, non-competitive environment
• Ability to relate to children in a positive manner
• Develop weekly plans for outdoor activities and indoors (when there is inclement weather.)
• Daily communication with Program Director regarding activities and any issues and any concerns

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ideally, (some) college education in Early Education &/or Physical Education, but not required
• Experience working with young students
• A positive thinker with a can-do attitude
• Willing to be certified in CPR/first aid training
• A quick thinker who is able to adjust or differentiate an activity when needed
• Possess a love of children who enjoys their company
• Be a positive role model to students and staff in attitude and behavior

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 4 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• Morning shift

• Poughkeepsie, NY 12601: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
