Purpose of the Position:
The Coordinator I/II, Athletics Communications is responsible for gathering and providing information to the public on specific and assigned men's and women's intercollegiate athletics programs, assists with public relations activities within intercollegiate athletics, and serves as a liaison between intercollegiate athletics and the media. The Incumbent will develop and maintain an effective presence on the web and new media associated with the UAH Athletics department. The Incumbent will assist the Director of Athletic Communications in the management of the department.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director of Athletic Communications in the management of the internal administrative functions and daily operations of the Athletics Communications Office monitoring the completion of assigned activity responsibilities and evaluating progress toward achievement of established goals and objectives. Assists in the development of departmental policies and the administration of office functions.
  • Ensure that information about the University's intercollegiate athletics programs is available to the public in a timely and effective manner. Assist in the planning, development, and execution of a comprehensive program of sports coverage which focuses on both competitive and non-competitive activities and includes information on student-athletes and teams in the University's intercollegiate athletics program.
  • Ensure that major special events for student-athletes, major conference and national event participation by University teams, and other special events reflect positively on the University by conducting research of records to identify and verify the accomplishments of teams and individuals, writing scripts for speeches or public announcements, and providing background material which lend an historical significance and perspective to the accomplishments of current events.
  • Responsible for handling computer statistics for UAH sporting events. Complete official statistics for soccer, volleyball, hockey, basketball, baseball, and softball by using the automated scorebook computer programs.
  • Oversee statistics and records for all UAH varsity sports. Manage all Conference and National weekly reports to ensure accurate records of athletic events and comply with NCAA and Conference rules.
  • Assists in the development and distribution of various publications for men's and women's sports programs. Oversee the Set up and tear down equipment for sports events. Serve as a game manager for home athletic events
  • Supervise, assign, and direct the work of students, volunteers, and contract personnel, monitor the completion of assigned activity responsibilities, and evaluating progress toward achievement of established goals and objectives.
  • Complete postgame reports and distribute to appropriate personnel, including opponents and media.
  • Abide by and comply with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Conference rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of the University, and all guidelines and policies of the Athletics department and reports any concerns of compromise or violation of rules, standards, guidelines or policies to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics or the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance.
  • Keep abreast of trends, maintains knowledge, competency, and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, become knowledgeable of and abide by all University, Athletics Department, GSC, and NCAA guidelines, rules, and regulations.
  • Prepare Conference reports for GSC and WCHA, as well as NCAA, AVCA, NFCA, to include preseason, weekly, and postseason reports. (Players of the Week, All-Conference, All-American, Special Honors, etc.)
  • Organize and maintain files for record keeping.
  • Respond to email and mail requests for information.
  • Coordinate game staff, stat crews, announcers, and music.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
  • 1-3 years of verifiable work experience in Sports Management, Media Relations, or Broadcasting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have experience managing websites
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous supervisory experience is required


Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree is preferred
  • Experience in athletic administration is desired

$37,000 - $42,000
