Job description

A senior level job to train and direct employees and assist to monitor and control the operation of the entire electric system: transmission, distribution, substation, switching, etc. by use of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA); responsible for maximizing system efficiency and minimizing service interruptions; coordinate departmental work with appropriate departments, contractors, customers and other external entities in accordance with federal, state and local standards, rules, regulations, contracts, operating codes and procedures.

Associate degree in Engineering Technology with 4-6 years of experience in the planning/design, operation, construction or maintenance of the electric system or High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) with 8-10 years of experience in the operation, construction or maintenance of the electric system including 2 years’ experience as an Electric System Operator 2. North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Transmission Operator certification and/or leadership experience preferred. Must have North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) certification as a Transmission Operator within 12 months of entering job. Must have successfully completed Basic and Advanced Electricity courses. Must successfully complete NIMS Training within 1 year of entering job. Must have successfully completed Color Discrimination Test 2. Must successfully pass Customer Contact Test. Must have knowledge of MLGW/TVA power flow and voltage control, operating policies and procedures, safety codes, emergency response plan/procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and transmission/distribution. Must have the ability to operate the electric system in full compliance with applicable NERC reliability standards and processes and procedures as they relate to MLGW. Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.

Works in office under good conditions. Subject to light lifting of maps/books, eye fatigue, sitting for long periods of time, and stressful environment including: constant monitoring of computer system and occasionally making trips to electric system facilities/construction sites. Shift work is required.

Candidates accepting employment with MLGW must live and maintain their residence within the boundaries of Shelby County, Tennessee within six months of their employment date. EOE M/F/D/V
