About Us
The Eugene Elks Lodge is seeking a part-time cook to join our Club operations team. This is a great opportunity to grow your career while owning all aspects of kitchen operations. The Eugene Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is one of the longest standing social and charitable clubs in Eugene with diverse members, rich community engagement, and a fun space filled with fellowship. We operate a full function Club space for members with a full service kitchen, bar, and dining room. This position will also provide the catering for special events and banquets when our venue is rented by outside parties. Come join our exciting team!
Duties and Responsibilities
· Ensure ingredients and final products are fresh and exceed customer expectations;
· Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients to ensure consistent portion control;
· Bake, grill, steam, and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods;
· Present, garnish, and arrange final dishes that delight and surprise;
· Occasionally serve or expedite food;
· Maintain a clean and safe work area and kitchen, including utensils, equipment, dishes, and food storage areas at and above State mandatory requirements;
· Handle and store ingredients and food, including receiving, processing, and storing inventory using appropriate inventory management;
· Maintain food safety and sanitation standards throughout kitchen and food storage areas;
· Execute opening and closing procedures for kitchen and food prep spaces;
· Setup workstations with required ingredients both hot and cold, including banquets and special events;
· Monitor food station inventory levels;
· Accommodate guests’ special requests;
· Operate all kitchen equipment such as grill, ovens, fryers, and dishwashers;
· Maintain solid knowledge of all food products and culinary techniques;
· Properly label and date all products to ensure safekeeping and sanitation;
· Maintain all quality control and food logs;
· Actively contribute to lowering food costs and wastes;
· Maintain a high level of professionalism;
· Comply with state and company safety requirements;
· Work as a team with front of house staff, volunteers, and other staff while maintaining frontline ownership of kitchen quality and sanitation;
· Follow all procedures and policies set forth by the company;
· Maintain a neat and clean appearance with clean and safe clothing;
· Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
· Current holder of valid Oregon food handlers’ certification;
· Knowledge of safety procedures, including safe temperatures at which ingredients must be kept and to which food must be prepared to avoid foodborne illness;
· Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating on complex dishes;
· Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of other people;
· Calm demeanor to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment;
· Accountability for the dishes you prepare measuring up to the expectations of management and customers alike;
· Comprehension and organization to follow direct orders and recipes and to correctly prepare dishes to the standards of the restaurant;
· Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools, such as knife techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting, and dicing;
· Ability to stand in one place for hours at a time, handle extreme heat and work shifts;
· Ability to communicate with other staff in English;
· High school diploma or equivalent is desirable (comparable experience may be substitute for any education requirement); training from a culinary school will be an asset.
Compensation
· Job type: part-time
· Pay: $14 – $16.50 per hour
· Set weekly schedule with additional hours based on special event schedule
