Primary Objective: Supports Company expectations and project deadlines by performing general controls PLC programming and engineering functions while meeting or reducing budgeted time and costs.
The Actual Job:
- Assist and review the electrical design engineer’s development of electrical schematics and pneumatic diagrams as needed.
- Ability to modify PLC programs and HMI applications for existing machines in addition to modifying programs and HMI applications to be used on duplicated and used on “standard” machines.
- Update and modify electrical schematics and pneumatic diagrams as needed to assist the electrical design engineers.
- Crosscheck electrical and pneumatics prints against mechanical drawings.
- Assist electrical assembly in resolving design issues.
- Download PLC programs, HMI applications, and program VFD parameters after initial machine power-up.
- Initialize and troubleshoot machine ethernet networks.
- Assist service technicians with in-house machine testing as needed for PLC and HMI debugging.
- Communicates with peers, team leader, supervisors, project leads, and management.
- Participates in and contributes to Massman’s lean manufacturing journey.
Assists in other areas and performs additional tasks as needed.
Knowledge/Skills and Experience:
Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field preferred.
Associate’s degree in a similar field with equivalent experience accepted.
Knowledge/Skills: AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk Vault Professional
MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint
Excellent print reading skills
General understanding of electrical components (i.e.,
fuses, drives, contactors, hmi’s)
Knowledge of electrical circuits, pneumatic circuits, UL and ANSI electrical standards
Rockwell PLC and HMI programming
General knowledge of general machine control, motor control circuits, variable frequency drives, discrete and analog controls.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continued improvement processes
preferred
Experience and/or Other Requirements:
1-5 years’ experience in design of automated equipment
Packaging equipment design or experience preferred
1-5 years’ experience working in an OEM environment
