Job Summary
The Controller is responsible for direct management of accounting staff and processes. Responsibilities include financial reporting, accounts payable, payroll, retail revenue accounting and grant accounting.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Supervise Senior Accountants, AR Analyst and AP Supervisor.
- Manage accurate and timely preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
- Establishing and monitoring accounting procedures with appropriate internal controls.
- Analyzing monthly and annual operating expenditures and revenues versus budget.
- Primary liaison with independent auditors for annual financial statement audit and compliance single audit.
- Primary liaison with independent auditors for ERISA audits of Money Purchase Pension and 403(b) Plans.
- Oversight of routine bank activity.
- Team with CFO and VP Finance to manage bank relationships.
- Ensuring all financial related reporting deadlines are met.
- Management of Fixed Assets system
- Ensuring proper maintenance of financial records and databases.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of accepted accounting practices and all applicable laws to ensure company compliance.
- Making monthly financial reports to the Vice President of Finance for the Finance/Audit Committee and analyzing/ reporting on financial information in various other forums.
- Ensure accuracy of financial information included in the annual report.
- Monitoring and resolving taxation issues.
- Overseeing finance operational functions and maintaining knowledge of department procedures and practices.
- Manage preparation and distribution of monthly departmental comparative income statements of actual and budget
- Prepare schedules for annual insurance renewals.
- Annual budget preparation
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of Form 990 tax returns.
- Preparing reports, trainings, presentations and proposals in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Recommending benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments.
- Resolving elevated accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
- Backup Senior Accountants and ensure appropriate backups are in place for all Finance duties.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and CPA required. Master's Degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
Qualifications:
- Eight years of financial management experience, including auditing and designing internal controls and preparation of periodic and annual financial statements, required.
- Passionate leadership qualities and strong organizational effectiveness skills, essential.
- Demonstrated proactive approach and ability to influence and communicate at all levels, as well as cross-functionally.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with financial and non-financial partners.
- Strong project management skills reflecting an ability to manage shifting priorities and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
- Adept in project and system development for process improvement.
- Comfortable challenging the status quo to make an impact and drive change management.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
Pay Range: $100,000 - $130,000
