JOB DESCRIPTION: Contract Grant Writer

COMPENSATION: $2,500 - $10,000 (Varies depending on the grant type and contractor experience)

The Center for Educational Innovation (CEI) based in New York City supports schools and school systems locally, nationally and around the globe. Through school transformation work, capacity building, professional learning and the development of student enrichment programming, CEI works to partner with schools and school systems to ensure that all students have access to a high quality education. CEI’s work is largely funded through local, state, and federal grants as well as grants from private foundations. To increase the impact and sustainability of this important work, CEI seeks a grant writer to support the attainment of grants on a project by project basis. The contract grant writer works closely with the director of development and program team to project manage and compile a grant application while ensuring a high level of quality and timeliness.

The contract grant writer will:

• Lead the preparation of concept notes, letters of inquiry, and grant proposals and narrative reports for a variety of funders – tailoring their writing to suit major institutional foundations, government agencies, and small family foundations.

• Analyze Request for Proposals (RFP), prepare written RFP summary.

• Work with colleagues at CEI, including the program team to curate or develop necessary content for the grant proposal.

• Utilize a project management software to keep track of projects.

• Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to complete a successful grant proposal.

• Provide project management, ensuring that project stakeholders have reviewed and provided feedback on proposals in a timely manner, and obtaining final approval.

Ideal candidates will have successful experience writing public and private grants applications, a working knowledge of public schools (district and charter) in larger urban areas and have an educational research background.
