Summary: As the 5S and TPM Coordinator, you will be responsible to work with all levels of employees positively to create change. Specifically, this position focuses on using basic Lean Manufacturing principles to influence the support needed to implement and sustain Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and 5S programs throughout the organization.

5S is a method we at Coldspring use to keep our workplaces clean, safe, free of clutter, and well-organized to help reduce waste and optimize our productivity. It allows us to provide a great first impression to our customers and keep employees physically and mentally organized. The 5 S’ are separating, set in order, standardizing, shining, and sustaining.
What you’ll be doing:
- Identifying potential safety hazards and issues; partnering with Safety, Engineering, Supervisors, and Managers to create and implement appropriate solutions
- Creating TPM manuals and Operator Maintenance checklists that instruct equipment operators on how to properly clean and maintain their equipment; establishing proper routines for daily, weekly, and monthly TPM items
- Working with Maintenance and Engineering to identify modifications needed to TPM manuals, Operator Maintenance tasks, or Preventive Maintenance tasks and schedules
- Auditing equipment that has a TPM manual to verify that Operator Maintenance checklists are being completed, and corrective actions are being taken as appropriate (approximately 50 machine audits required per quarter)
- Acting as the company’s internal consultant and primary training resource on TPM and 5S
- Ensuring that TPM activities are compliant with applicable policies, procedures, and other Quality Management System requirements.
- Ensuring that all new equipment brought into the organization receives TPM and PM preparation steps, before its being placed into routine service
- Identifying repetitive TPM and PM issues, repeat repairs, and high-cost maintenance and working with Maintenance to review and solve
- Determining/ balancing actions and recommendations when considering “opportunity costs” associated with downtime vs. pre-emptive work to reduce downtime/ increase uptime
- Assisting in the 5S design of the workplace to be more “clean-up” friendly with the goal of eliminating the sources of the mess
- Establishing well-defined standards for 5S in all areas and fairly assessing (via audit) all areas of the company on the 5S efforts and results (approximately 100 area audits required per month)
- Maintaining databases to track TPM and 5S audit results
- Traveling to other company locations as requested to assist in the execution of TPM and 5S efforts in those locations
Physical Demands: This position requires extensive walking, bending, and sitting. The walking is primarily on hard surfaces. Must also be able to travel as needed to other company locations. You will be working approximately 50% of the time on the production floor or quarry and the other 50% in the office.
Education: Technical College AAS or similar degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a similar field.
Experience: 3-5 years in a mechanical / manufacturing environment. Specific 5S & TPM work experience preferred.
