The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) seeks a Community Liaison to support our effort to hear all voices in our decision making. The successful candidate must demonstrate background in community engagement, and public speaking skills
Collaborate closely with Deputy Director of Community Engagement better understand the various MBTA departments and the intersecting initiatives which impact the public, including partnering with Service planning, Capital Programs, Policy, System-Wide Accessibility, and the General Manager’s office
- Communicate and coordinate with Deputy Director of Community Engagement for engaging external stakeholders that vary from outreach specific departments for municipalities to community organizations
- Ensure our community engagement strategies meet or exceed our Title VI policies; collaborate with partners in MassDOT and at the Federal Transit Administration on any matters relevant to Title VI
- Collaborate with other members of the Community Engagement Team and various MBTA departments to share project or policy information to better ensure continuity for external communications
- Draft community content and public facing documents and occasionally present MBTA objectives and projects to internal and external stakeholders
- Respond to customer, stakeholder, vendor, and coworker inquiries in a courteous and professional manner
- Adhere to the rules, and regulations, and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned
- Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in political science, urban studies, public policy, sociology, social work, criminal justice, public health or related field
- At least one (1) years of relevant work experience collaborating to understand intersecting policy initiatives, including partnering with relevant stakeholders in complex organizations
- Demonstrated experience presenting on public and/or social policy in government settings
- Experience working with community based organizations
- Experience facilitating meetings with diverse audiences
- Experience presenting complex information in public settings
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills
- Strong time management skills, ability to multi-task, learn quickly, take direction, and work independently and to use creative, collaborative, and consultative approaches to resolve issues
- Intermediate experience with MS Word and PowerPoint
- Adhere to rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the MBTA including the EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation policies.
- Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, background screening, and the MBTA’s medical requirements, including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
- Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting, including overall employment, job performance, discipline, and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection

- Ability to supervise or work effectively with diverse workforce
Substitutions include:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution, and seven (7) additional years of experience in high-volume Benefits administration in a large organization; and/or administering Human Resources related programs may be substituted for the degree requirement
- Bilingual ability strongly preferred
- 1 years of experience in communication or community engagement specifically in government contexts
