The Community Care Social Worker is an integral member of the Irving Park Apachi Day Camp team and is the primary mental health expert on site during the summer. Together with the Director, the Social Worker will provide ongoing trainings and resources to staff on topics that are related to child development and the social-emotional needs of the children.

This professional will work with the camp team to plan and coordinate age-appropriate activities. They will work with staff to build their capacity to identify and support children experiencing challenging emotions or behaviors and will work directly with children and families to address interpersonal group dynamics, bullying, conflict resolution skills, and more.

This Social Worker will be a liaison between counselors, unit heads, parents, and administrators, ensuring that communication is seamless, and everyone involved is doing their part to set the children up to have a successful and fun summer.

Key areas of responsibility:

· Help create, coordinate, and lead training sessions for counselors and CITs.

· Work with the Director, Unit Heads, and Counselors to set expectations for camper and counselor behavior.

· Develop and implement routines, schedules, and procedures for camp activities and transitions.

· Observe and evaluate the needs of campers to create and implement interventions to support them in the group environment.

· Keep the leadership team informed of camper and staff issues.

· Document interactions and interventions for grant and data collection purposes.

· Come to camp each day with a positive attitude and model for staff, children, and families engaging and professional behavior.

· Perform other duties as needed.

Key Essential Job Duties/Physical Requirements:

· Lift/move children up to 40 lbs.

· Demonstrate physical stamina and agility required to be mobile for long periods throughout the day.

· Stand for long periods of time and be able to run and actively engage physically with children.

· React with physical and mental alertness in emergency situations.

· Use hands for grasping equipment and play material.

· Supervise children by sight and sound.

· Must be able to rotate head side to side to scan the environment.

· Ability to demonstrate, motivate, and communicate with children and adults.

· Ability to speak clearly and articulately with a loud tone of voice.

· Mental alertness; sustain concentration for long periods of time.

· Mental abilities: Attention to detail; manage multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines.

· React with physical and mental alertness in emergency situations and assist in evacuation of building and/or campus.

· Ability to take guidance and supervision.

Days/Hours

· Potential hours available during the school year for camper outreach and planning.

· Full Summer | 7 Weeks | June 20-August 4
Session 1 | 4 Weeks | June 20-July 14
Session 2 | 3 Weeks | July 17-August 4

Full Day | 9:30am-3:15pm
Before care begins at 8:15am
After care ends at 5:30pm

Education Qualifications:

· Holds a graduate level degree in a mental health field such as social work, psychology, or counseling.

· Licensed Professional in one of the above mental health professions preferred.

· Child development classes required.

Previous Experience:

· 2+ years’ experience in a school, camp, or clinical setting working with youth.

· Experience creating and implementing interventions that address behavioral concerns and group dynamics.

· Experience juggling multiple projects, situations, and/or crises.

· Experience partnering with families to address situations involving the mental health, behavior, and needs of their children.

· Experience training staff on social-emotional and child development related topics.

· Experience with mandated reporting and handling disclosures or suspicions of abuse.
