The ICCT seeks a highly motivated and committed Communications Specialist, Digital Content to work closely with researchers, editors, project managers, and organizational leaders to determine how to maximize the reach and impact of ICCT’s research and analysis through omni-channel digital outreach and engagement. The Communication Specialist, Digital Content will do this first by acting as the organization’s lead digital strategist – developing and running the ICCT’s digital engagement strategy to extend our visibility, accessibility, and impact among our core and emerging audiences. They’ll also serve as the ICCT’s lead content creator, developing compelling original content, based on ICCT data and analysis, to optimize our existing digital channels.

The Communication Specialist, Digital Content is key to data-driven digital marketing – leading and executing the ICCT’s digital communications strategy across channels to directly drive and measure our impact. That means working with and guiding teams around the globe on how to make the best use of our digital properties to achieve our strategic and policy goals and on how to measure our efforts. While many ICCT staff members have important social media and web presences, our Communications Specialist, Digital Content is the expert responsible for proactively ensuring all our digital channels are compelling, consistent, and on-brand. That means that along with exemplary social media and web skills, ICCT’s Communications Specialist, Digital Content also must know how to collaborate with and guide multidisciplinary teams of other professionals to keep a large, complex communications portfolio moving. And that also means serving as the ICCT’s digital expert – being the first to know and advise others on what’s working and not working in the digital world and identifying trends and patterns in how our audiences’ access and act on information.

This is a full-time position that can be based in our San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC office and will report to the Communications Director.


You will:

  • Develop and execute a digital engagement strategy to serve ICCT’s core audiences, expand our audience base, and maximize our impact.
  • Collaborate with researchers and project managers to translate complex analytical and policy objectives into actionable digital engagement plans and products.
  • Work closely with researchers, editors, and other communication specialists to produce compelling digital content and copy tailored specifically to each digital channel and to train colleagues across the organization to support those activities.
  • Develop an optimal posting schedule for web and social, considering factors including digital traffic patterns, customer engagement metrics, and organizational priorities.
  • Analyze, monitor, and report on digital performance both across channels and across programs to optimize our performance and impact.
  • Research and analyze audience preferences to identify trends and emerging needs.
  • Manage the ICCT’s social media community by engaging with followers, connections, and other relevant audiences (including regulators and policymakers) to increase the ICCT’s presence and impact.
  • Develop and oversee end-to-end digital campaigns that support the ICCT’s goals by identifying strategic needs, setting engagement objectives, and allocating and adjusting resources accordingly.
  • Manage and optimize multiple global web properties, including the ICCT’s main site; this includes maintaining consistent branding and design elements, analyzing and optimizing user journeys, and developing and executing an SEO strategy for multiple.
  • Coordinate with and support the work of other communication specialists engaged in activities like graphic design, video production, event planning, and media outreach.

You Have:

  • Ability to manage social media (including strategy and content development).
  • Ability to manage web properties (including design, UX/UI optimization, and SEO management).
  • Knowledge of modern digital design and publishing tools (e.g., WordPress, Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, AgoraPulse, Sprout Social, etc.).
  • Ability to use social media and web analytics tools (e.g., Insights 360, Brandwatch, Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, etc.) and conduct in depth analyses around audience segmentation, funnel analyses, and campaign analytics.
  • Ability to synthesize complex data points into simple, impact-focused recommendations and action plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to understand and synthesize technical information and translate it for multiple audiences differentiated across digital platforms.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with researchers, editors, managers, and other staff.
  • Ability to collaborate with teams, present creative concepts, and incorporate feedback.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines by prioritizing work.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working in a publications or research environment.
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector.
  • Knowledge of the transportation sector and issues related to clean transportation.
  • Knowledge of the environmental sector and climate/environmental policy issues.

Our Benefits

This full-time position will be based in our Washington, D.C. or San Francisco, CA office and have a salary of $77,600 (DC) or $85,360 (SF). We offer an excellent benefits package including health insurance, paid vacation and family leave, a 401k plan with a generous 7% employer contribution, hybrid office/remote flexibilities, transportation subsidy, and other benefits.
