AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program dedicated to ending poverty by building the capacity of nonprofit organizations and public agencies. VISTA’s mission is to strengthen and supplement efforts in low-income communities to eliminate and alleviate poverty by engaging volunteers from all walks of life, all geographical areas, and all age groups in a year of full-time service.
By joining Volunteer Corps at L.A. Works, you will be placed with one of our nonprofit partner organizations to serve for 12 months and tasked with a capacity-building project such as: creating sustainable systems to expand services, recruiting community members to volunteer in local programs, establishing a database of program alumni, and/or developing partnerships to bring new economic opportunities in LA county.

Eligibility Requirements
- Be 18 years or older
- Pass a national service criminal history check
- Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens and persons residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status
Assistant for Communication and Latinx Ministries
Objective: The Assistant for Communications and Latinx Ministries develops and administers communication projects which:
● present the Twin Valleys Lutheran Parish (TVLP) ministries within
and beyond the church network,
● project our philosophy, strengthen our presence as a non-profit
● support the implementation of Latinx Ministries
● aid in the diversification of the funding sources
Report to: Executive Director of TVLP (hiring date pending) or Current Board
Chair (Marsha Harris through fall, 2022)
Responsible for: Twin Valleys Lutheran Parish newsletter / storytelling, Website
maintenance and updates, letters of appeal, social media and
information projects. Support the leadership team of Latinx Ministry
Strategy Table and its participants. May occasionally assist Consultant
with research and writing grants
Number of Hours: Approximately 33 hours per week
15 hours for TVLP Communications
15 hours for Latinx Ministry
3 hours per week for Central Lutheran Church, paid separately by this
organization, performing similar tasks of communication.
Hours between tasks shift according to needs of these groups
I. Requirements
▪ Bilingual in English and Spanish
▪ Cultural fluency in a variety of Latinx contexts
▪ Ability to work on several projects and with different groups at one
time with parallel timeframes and objectives
▪ Excellent time management skills
▪ Excellent writing skills
▪ Technology and Information skills: Strong computer skills necessary,
including multiple forms of social media
▪ Creativity and sense of responsibility would be a plus
▪ Availability to work on site as needed for specific projects
▪ Ability to use Communications Management tools for both internal
and external communications
II. Tasks:
▪ Provide a broad range of technology and information support to the Board
of Directors, any administrative staff and to Ministry Tables
▪ Coordinate the publication of the newsletter
▪ Ensure enhancement and maintenance of the website at least once a
month; update website and social media sites weekly
▪ Coordinate information and outreach using appropriate web-based tools
▪ Coordinate meetings and support materials, including developing master
calendar for the four ministry tables, board, and related parish partner
ministries
▪ Communicate calendar and timelines effectively for Latinx Ministries
▪ Provide weekly text messages through CMS for outreach programs
▪ Develop information campaigns within budget
▪ Research and write grants for technology and information projects; work
with fundraising grant-writing team
▪ Produce videos and photos for production of a Video or CD to inform and
attract new donors and participants for our organization
▪ Participate in meetings, workshops, planning process with the members of
TVLP as needed
▪ Develop and maintain communications for TVLP and its Latinx Ministry
Strategy, and assist with this task at the Central Lutheran Church location
▪ Accomplish other tasks as needed

IV. Compensation and Benefits
▪ Compensation commensurate with experience
▪ Two weeks of vacation and two weeks of sick leave per year
▪ Benefits in compliance with state regulations for religious organizations
