Job Description


The Opportunity

KIPP Texas Public Schools, Austin’s college counseling manager is primarily responsible for managing the college counseling program at a KIPP Texas Austin high school. In alignment with our mission and vision, the CCM’s role is to ensure that every KIPP Texas Austin student has created a strong post-secondary plan based on match and fit. The college counseling manager will work closely with the high school leadership team, teachers, parents, students and the greater Austin community to ensure our students are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to successfully matriculate to and thrive in college.

This position is ideal for applicants who have experience either in high school college counseling or college admissions and are interested in developing the growing college counseling and alumni services programs at KIPP Austin Public Schools.

Reports to the Director of KIPP Forward program and School Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a four year college counseling program for all students that is consistent with KIPP Texas mission.
  • Work with the Director of KTC to set goals and annual priorities for the high school counseling program.
  • Manage a staff of 3 seminar teachers/college counselors.
  • Coach and support the junior and senior seminar teacher through curriculum assessment, classroom observation and goal setting.
  • Manage and allocate resources from KIPP Forward budget for all college counseling programming.
  • Develop and facilitate college counseling PD for junior and senior seminar staff.
  • Attend and contribute to the High School Leadership team meetings.
  • Collaborate with school leader on college access related projects as they arise.
  • Teach 1-2 senior seminar classes.
  • Oversee the continued development of junior and senior seminar curriculum.
  • Establish and maintain relationships/partnerships with colleges and universities, outreach programs and scholarship organizations.
  • Stay up to date on all policy changes and developments affecting financial aid, scholarships, applications, and admissions standards.
  • Manage and coach high school teachers towards the completion of quality of teacher recommendations.
  • Monitor the completion and quality of the college application process.
  • Monitor the completion and quality of the financial aid application process.
  • Monitor enrollment in summer enrichment opportunities for 10th and 11th graders.
  • Manage the coordination of college visits with admissions representatives to the high school.
  • Manage and analyze all data that is relevant to college counseling: test scores, transcripts, scholarship dollars, and college matriculation, including all relevant reports to be directed to school leader and Director of KIPP Forward.
  • Participate actively in High School staff and faculty meetings.
  • Participate actively in professional learning communities both on-site and off-site.
  • Assist the Director of KIPP Forward with projects as they arise.

Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with high school students (especially first-generation) and their families in the college counseling field.
  • Prior teaching and classroom management experience.
  • Prior experience managing and supervising adults
  • Prior experience in using data to drive decision making
  • Strong working knowledge in all Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work with faculty, families, students and community partners.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Fast learner with the ability to inquire and be open to feedback.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment that is deadline driven.
  • Possess and entrepreneurial spirit, be flexible, willing and able to play different roles at the school, and to go above and beyond for students at KIPP Austin.
  • Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent and understanding.
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the KIPP Austin Public Schools’ mission and community.
  • Bachelor’s degree (required); Master’s degree (a plus)
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
