The College Counselor will join the College Bound program; College Bound is designed with providing all students who are interested in going to college with access to the information needed to make informed choices. College Bound provides students with one-on-one help to further their endeavors and guides them in navigating their post-secondary education journey whether it’s applying to college, trade school, or the military or figuring out what is the next step and how to get there.

Job Details:
  • Position: College Bound Counselor - Part-Time
  • 21 hours per week from September 2022-June 2023
  • Pay up to $23 an hour commensurate with experience and education
Duties include, but are not limited to the following key activities:
  • Oversee and maintain student caseload, assisting and guiding them through the entire college process
  • Creating content/material for all high school grades topics involving college readiness
  • Educating students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; advising students and families as they go through the process; and helping students and families aspire realistically and choose wisely- working with all high school grades
  • Facilitate college workshops for students and/or parents multiple times throughout the school year.
  • Meet with students, individually and in groups, to talk about the college process and individual college choices, and post-secondary plans.
  • Provide monthly data information on college admissions, application status, college acceptances, financial aid info, and other relevant statistics, to Program Director.
  • Coordinate College field trips relevant to our student population as needed
  • Maintain flexible hours and workdays
  • Provide students with post-secondary readiness support, including work-readiness skills development.
  • Maintain and share information on colleges, scholarships, financial aid, and methods of paying for college.
  • Stay abreast of issues and trends in college admissions, higher education, and testing, as well as keep up-to-date about specific colleges.
  • Engage teachers and other school staff in creating a college-going culture.
  • Identify and establish linkage with ASAP, BON, EOP, HEOP SEEK, and various other programs on their college campus to support students.
  • Additional office and program duties as requested by the department.
Required skills/dispositions:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or related field required.
  • Bilingual preferred- Spanish speaking
  • A minimum of 2 years of college counseling experience is preferred.
  • Reliable, organized, flexible, and punctual.
  • Full understanding of the College /Fasfa, Common Application, and University admissions process.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff and school staff.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person and over the phone, applying tact and discretion as situations demand.
  • Must have excellent organizational, time management, and follow-up skills.
  • Responsible and professional conduct that serves as a role model to staff and youth.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • All staff are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
