Job description
GFL is looking to hire a Collections Administrator to join our team based out of the Southfield office! The Collections Administrator will primarily be responsible for maintaining bankruptcy files, payables files and vendor reporting for 3rd party collection agencies. They will communicate with upper management (General Managers/Area Controllers) at the branch on disputed accounts to gain faster resolution. As well, they will provide administrative support for the home office collection department and provide excellent customer service to both internal and external clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain all bankruptcy notifications
  • Involved in write off and bad debt process
  • Submit weekly paid files to collection agencies and determine any needed credit adjustments
  • Address any collection agency defined customer disputes
  • Verify and process weekly payments, payables and NSFs submitted by our vendors
  • Reminder and suspension letter responsibilities
  • Send 5 day pull back accounts to collection agencies that do not require 3rd party collections.
  • UAC (Unapplied cash / credits) assistance as needed
  • Month end reporting assistance as needed
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Document any new processes or updated current procedures
  • Develop and maintain the matrix for Third Party Agencies – Trend their performance
  • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and directives from supervisors/managers
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
  • Associate’s degree (AA) from two-year College or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in commercial collections, account receivable and/or customer service
  • Bankruptcy experience with filing Claims and working with outside vendor to maintain filings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with an intermediate level in excel
  • Knowledge of AS400 software system and Soft Pak/Tower preferred
  • Excellent customer service and phone skills
  • Able to resolve customer complaints and questions
  • Able to excel in fast paced environment
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal skills with attention to detail in all areas of work
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse work environment as part of a team as well as independently
