Higginbotham, a privately held, independent insurance and financial services firm that ranks within the top 20 nationwide, has an immediate opening for a COBRA Service Specialist for our Fort Worth office.

The Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the COBRA Department. This includes daily administration of the plan, client disbursements and client reports. The COBRA Specialist is also responsible for ensuring the highest quality of service, which meets or exceeds the expectations of our clients.

The essential tasks for the COBRA Service Specialist include:

  • Proactive client communication
  • Manage an established book of business
  • Answer client (employee, former employee and dependents) COBRA and State Continuation questions (calls, voice mails, emails, etc.) as a timely as possible preferably within 3 business hours
  • Communicate with clients, carriers, and Higginbotham staff regarding status of enrollments, eligibility, payments, implementations, website training, open enrollment and renewals
  • High volume data entry and use of spreadsheets: processing enrollments and written correspondence
  • Reports eligibility as needed to account management or the carriers
  • Assists in resolving issues for clients and participants. This may entail interacting with account management teams to resolve eligibility issues and other identified issues.
  • Upon issue resolution, enters or changes data in the system to reflect current and correct information. Ensures that notes are documented appropriately, and then provides that resolution timely.
  • Maintain knowledge of COBRA laws and keep clients aware of changes
  • Ensure strict compliance with all COBRA and HIPAA requirements
  • Other tasks as assigned

Location:

  • Fort Worth, Texas
  • Hybrid/Semi-Remote Schedule following completion of training

Experience:

  • One year of COBRA experience or related experience

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Understand COBRA requirements, SPDs, and benefit summaries
  • Ability to multitask and lead projects a successful closure
  • Possess strong interpersonal and proactive troubleshooting skills
  • Utilize excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Provide superior customer service to internal and external customers
  • Ability to work independently, assess situations quickly and make logical and appropriate decisions
  • Bilingual is a plus
