Fitness Center Manager

Direct Report: Fitness Operations Director

Job Description Summary: Our Fitness Center Manager has four primary roles:

1) Provide Exceptional Member and Guest Experiences

2) Customer Service

  • Greet our members and guests as they enter and wish them well as they leave.
  • Friendly, smiling face, helpful, reliable and takes initiative.
  • Asisst members by answering questions, scheduling appointments, answering the phone, trouble shooting as issues arise, and much more.
  • Knowledge of all services, classes, schedules, hours of operation, fitness and club events, who oversees what department and what each position entails, and much more.
  • The Fitness Center Manager must be able to enforce Bridgewater Fitness Center's Rules & Regs and Etiquette. Part of customer service, entails confrontation of members, youth, and/or guests who are disruptive or not abiding by the fitness center rules. If you are not comfortable addressing issues or addressing issues in a calm and professional manner, this job is not for you.

3) Leadership

  • Oversee and support Fitness Desk & Childcare Staff, as well as Lifeguards
  • Plays an integral role in providing support and leadership to the fitness desk and childcare employees.
  • As the Shift Lead, you will implement and oversee policies and procedures to optimize the fitness desk and childcare operations.
  • You will work along side the fitness desk and childcare staff. Shift Leads are required to complete the same daily tasks as the front line staff.
  • Train new staff when needed.
  • As a Shift Lead, you will elevate staff culture, and enhance member experience.
  • Professionalism, integrity, tenacity, humor, and a genuine appreciation for health, fitness, and children are vital to this role.
  • You must be able to work well within a group, as well as independently.

4) Cleanliness and Organization of the Fitness Facility

  • As the closing Shift Lead, you and the fitness desk employee will be required to clean the the fitness center, lobby and locker rooms each night.
  • Wipe down fitness equipment throughout the day and a through cleaning at closing.
  • Checklists are provided and must be completed on a daily basis.
  • The cleaning is labor intensive and repetitive. If you do not like to clean, this job is not for you.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Include but is not limited to)

  • Maintains a minimum of 30 scheduled hours as the Fitness Manager
  • Works afternoons and evenings and covers possible weekend shift vacancies at the front desk and in the childcare as needed.
  • Works with the Fitness Operations Director on establishing and maintaining standard operating procedures that aid in the successful functioning of all front desk and childcare operations
  • Practices effective and timely communication with all desk and childcare staff, in addition to all members of the management team.
  • Maintains accurate upkeep of all information needed at fitness desk, including; binders, electronic folders, files, templates, and POS information.
  • Create monthly staff schedule for all fitness desk and childcare staff.
  • Assist Fitness Operations Director with ordering merchandise, entering it into inventory and end of month inventory.
  • Customer service lead for addressing member feedback and suggestions.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Additional Required Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Effective verbal and written communicator
  • Possesses strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associates degree or higher
  • 3-years managerial experience required

Qualifications/Certifications

  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows applications and Microsoft Office; including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Ability to demonstrate equipment use.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
