Purpose
The primary purpose of the Clinical Dietitian is to provide nutrition care for all residents in all assigned areas according to established practice guidelines and Nutrition Services policies along with current federal, state, and local standards. This position collaborates and coordinates resident care with members of the interdisciplariny health care team. The Clinical Dietitian reports directly to the Chief Clinical Dietitian.

Education
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum years of Experience: None
Required Certifications/Licensure: Registered (through examination administered) by the Commission of Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Current license to practice dietetics from the state of South Carolina.
(Please note: Registry eligible candidates may be considered with the following provisions: Must provide documentation from Commission of Dietetic Registration of eligibility status, and must complete registration exam and obtain a license to practice dietetics in South Carolina within 6 months of start date as a condition of continued employment).
Major Duties & Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates competence to provide developmentally appropriate care/treatment for the following resident population: Adult (18 years to 65 years) Geriatric (over 65 years)
2. Provides input and is active in the development of nutrition screening/assessment parameters.
3. Provides input and is active in the development of nutrition protocols and policies.
4. Collaborates with the resident, family member, and/or caregiver to assess needs, set priorities, establish goals/outcomes and develop individualized care plans. Continues to monitor progress toward achieving goals/outcomes. Participates in discharge planning as needed.
5. Interviews residents/family members/care givers to obtain diet history and food preferences. Routinely updates resident’s food preferences in menu system.
6. Collaborates and coordinates resident’s care with members of the health care team.
7. Participates in department and hospital-wide performance improvement data collection. Provides input into department’s performance improvement plan of action for improvements.
8. Practice reflects best evidence, applicable laws, and other regulatory standards in the provision of nutrition services.
9. Performs the key functions of the nutrition care process according to policy.
10. Uses accurate and relevant data and information to identify nutrition-related problems.
11. Identifies and labels specific nutrition problem(s) that will be addressed in the plan of care.
12. Identifies and implements planned interventions with the intent of changing or improving a nutrition related behavior, risk factor, or condition. Interventions may include resident/family education.
13. Monitors and evaluates data directly related to the nutrition diagnosis, goals, and interventions to determine progress made in achieving desired outcomes of nutrition care.
14. Manages weight program in assigned areas.
15. Completes assigned monthly, quarterly and annual nutrition documentation in a timely manner. Monthly charting includes nutrition wound management, tube feeding and dialysis reviews and significant weight loss evaluations.
16. Provides nutrition in-services for dietary staff and be involved in new employee orientation as needed.
17. Applies knowledge and communicates effectively with others.
18. Demonstrates knowledge related to clinical dietetics practice.
19. Communicates and applies sound scientific principles, research, and theory.
20. Serves as a preceptor and guides dietetic interns/students in the application of nutrition knowledge and skills.
21. Contributes to the development of new knowledge and services.
22. Utilizes system practice guidelines, references and the nutrition care manual in the provision of nutrition services.
23. Considers safety, effectiveness, and cost in providing and delivering nutrition services and products.
24. Engages in lifelong learning.
25. Conducts self-assessment to identify strengths and weakness at regular intervals.
26. Identifies needs for professional development and develops/implements a plan for professional growth.
27. Documents professional development activities.
28. Maintains Registration and Licensure in good standing.
29. Adheres to Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Code of Ethics.
30. Demonstrates an optimistic, enthusiastic, professional, career oriented demeanor and is a positive role model consistent with the facility mission and vision.
31. Demonstrates understanding of dress code.
32. Demonstrates excellent customer service toward residents, families, caregivers, and peers.
33. Demonstrates dependability and reliability when completing assignments.
34. Demonstrates reliability by conforming to attendance policy.
35. Observes safety, sanitation rules, infection control procedures per regulations.
36. Maintains a clean, comfortable work environment.
37. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
38. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.50 - $34.75 per hour
