Job Summary:
The Clinic Nurse collaborates with the health care team to provide patient care while maintaining high quality operations of the facilities. The Clinic Nurse is responsible for the duties of their designated position, but as time allows, they are to assist the other nurses/departments if needed in completing their tasks. This position will rotate on a weekly basis between completing pump fills and being a clinic float nurse. The Nurse’s task list includes but is not limited to:
- Collaborates and assists medical providers and nursing team as needed.
- Checks in with other medical departments regularly throughout the day – triage, providers, and Medical Assistant supervisor.
- Intrathecal Pump Management:
- Uses aseptic technique, safely and efficiently perform ultrasound guided pump fill procedures.
- Updates the IT pump patient log/flowsheet after each pump fill.
- Tracks IT pump medications, pump fill appointments, and ERI dates using the IT pump flowsheet.
- Orders IT pump medications.
- Ensures patient has scheduled a pump fill appointment prior to their alarm date.
- Ensures patient has scheduled an appointment with their provider prior to the pump fill if needed.
- Monitors ERI dates to determine upcoming routine pump replacement.
- Uses standing orders for pump dye studies and pump replacements.
- Assesses surgical incisions/wounds on post-surgical pump patients.
- Assists providers in pump pre-trial and pre-implant education appointments.
- Coordinates home health pump patients.
- Provides patient education regarding intrathecal pump trials, implants, and on-going pump management.
- Carries out standing orders as appropriate.
- Prepares medication for and assists with joint injections.
- Prepares Botox for provider administration.
- Administers Toradol as directed by the provider.
- Manages procedure/pump supplies and pump kits.
- Covers lab collection as needed.
- Assists the triage nurse by responding to phone messages and providing patient assessment as needed.
- Tracks and manages procedure anticoagulant hold requests.
- Covers other nurses’ positions as needed.
- Coordinates and administers TB tests to new hires.
Supervisory Responsibility
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- BSN or associate degree in Nursing with 1 year patient care experience preferred.
- Current BLS certification.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to be detail oriented while multi-tasking and managing priorities.
- Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.
- Able to work in a fast-paced work environment and efficiently handle daily fluctuation of patient volume.
- Capable to work independently or as part of a team with the ability to be self-motivated.
- Able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Skilled to follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong computer skills.
