Job Summary*
Evergreen Treatment Services, a private nonprofit that has been in operation since 1973, has earned a local, regional and national reputation for excellence in the services we provide. ETS operates three federally accredited opioid treatment programs for adults with opioid use disorders across western Washington, and a street-based, outreach and case management program for homeless adults with chemical dependency in downtown Seattle.
The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clinical and administrative procedures to assist with patients in one or more agency programs. The duties must follow the RCW 18.360.050.
Administrative duties include but not exclusive: answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients' medical records, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for laboratory services, assisting patients with forms, and monitoring and ordering supplies.
Clinical duties include but not exclusive: taking medical histories and assisting with collecting information for intakes, performing oral fluid or urine testing, recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, registering medications and assisting the medical provider during the examination.
The nature of this position is fast paced, requires considerable multi-tasking and involves exceptional interpersonal skills. The position also requires regular interaction with the executive team, employees and external stakeholders.
Job Functions may occur in the Mobile Dispensary, Medical Van, or Clinic Site (May Include)
Nursing Department:

  • Capillary blood withdrawal, venipuncture, and intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections and oral fluid testing.
  • Urinalysis collection
  • Electronic medical records file maintenance. Monitor for completeness and assist with obtaining missing data if record is incomplete
  • Maintain medication and immunization records. Register Medications.
  • File paperwork and fax documents.
  • Properly dispose of biohazardous materials
  • Practice standard precautions
  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls
  • Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to Dispensary.
  • Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, safe temperature).
  • Ordering supplies for the TIM Program.
  • Collaborate across departments to assist and improve communication with the Dispensary.
  • Monitor and administer TB testing for patients and staff.
  • Prepare and maintain Mobile Medical Van and Mobile Dispensary. Ensure the Mobile Medical Van and Mobile Dispensary have adequate supplies on board. Keep exam room of Mobile Medical Van clean, ensure units are clean and ready for next day.
  • Manage Callback process and appointment with Dispensary.
  • Assist Nursing staff as needed.

Medical Providers:

  • Communicate with Medical Providers regarding labs, reports, or communication from outside agencies.
  • Obtain patient history, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, observe and report patients' signs or symptoms and document all information in patient’s chart. Give report to Medical Provider before Medical Intake.
  • Telehealth equipment chaperone during exam with remotely located Medical Provider.
  • State Prescription Drug Monitoring Program checks
  • Perform electrocardiograms
  • Give instructions to patients as instructed by Medical Provider.
  • Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to Medical Providers.
  • Collaborate with front desk, counseling, nursing and other departments to assist with communication between departments and Medical Providers.

Requirements:Education
1. High school diploma: some college preferred
License/Certification
1. Washington State Department of Health-issued medical assistant credential in accordance with RCW 18.360.050
2. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Skills
1. Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette

Physical Requirements
1. The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk and kneel; occasionally to climb balance, or stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl.
2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
