Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Architecture, Architectural Engineering or a related field, and six (6) years of professional experience as a Registered Architect, of which two (2) years must have been in developing and coordinating large scale projects, including two (2) years of managerial experience.
Licenses and Certificates: Registration as a Professional Architect in the State of Texas or a State having reciprocal agreement and the ability to obtain registration in Texas within one (1) year of appointment.
Under general direction plan, manage, coordinate, and direct capital project development, oversee project implementation, and supervise staff.
Plan and evaluate capital improvement programs. Involves: Analyze financial and legal issues affecting public works programs, urban and regional land use. Develop and implement major capital improvement programs and facility enhancements. Attend departmental meetings, conferences, workshops training sessions and review publications to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas. Represent the department in a professional manner. Meet with city management, and outside agency officials to inform of pending expansion or relocations. Make presentations to City management, Mayor and Council, boards and commissions members and other officials as required. Revitalize and fully develop design approach to exceptional capital improvements within the City.
Develop and review design criteria. Involves: Devconsisting of procedures and standards for the preparation of construction documents of park and site improvements, public buildings and economic development proposed projects. Coordinate and identify project through development of long-range plans. Direct, review and control project development. Direct and control review of plans submitted by city departments and private consultants.
Plan, design, implement and review department short and long-term goals and priorities. Collect and analyze data. Explore methods for improving the design process by developing programs that are new and innovative. Manage priorities and progress of projects and activities.
Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct in, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance and review evaluations by subordinates. Provide for training and development; enforce personnel rules and regulations, and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, or other employee status changes. Enforce safety rules and regulations.
