POSITION: Chief People & Culture Officer
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer
FTE/FLSA: Full-time Regular / Exempt
SALARY: $135,000-165,000 Annually
Functional Role: The Chief People & Culture Officer (CPCO) is responsible for providing leadership in developing and implementing practices and processes in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization, specifically in the areas of organizational and performance management, learning and development, compensation and benefits, talent management, compliance and risk management, change management and succession planning. The CPCO serves as a member of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona (CFB) Senior Leadership Team. The CPCO will lead a team of People and Culture human resources professionals, while ensuring the organization is properly supported by all human resources functions and activities.
In partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this position serves as a collaborative change agent while providing support to the Senior Leadership team regarding equity issues that impact the CFB. The CPCO will also be responsible for giving oversight to consultant activities and training teams in support of organizational leadership and related initiatives. The CPCO may be called upon to present to the Board of Directors when requested by the CEO.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains oversight, direction and ultimate responsibility of human resources systems and service through an equity lens including recruitment, onboarding, benefits and wellness, employee relations, retention, coaching, performance management, compensation and benefits, and compliance with all employment laws and policies.
- Supports staff toward their achievement of professional development, mentorship and leadership opportunities within the organization. Brings an informed perspective on the ways those opportunities are not always available to all staff and addresses barriers head on.
- Partners with the CEO to influence, drive and maintain positive culture and engagement in order to realize and achieve the CFB organizational vision.
- Collaborates with the CFB Senior Leadership Team to actively model and demonstrate care, vulnerability, perspective and shared accountability; contributes to a spirit of trust and high morale; drives results for high impact, evaluates efficacy and productivity.
- Provides leadership to achieve CFB’s equity commitment and internal capacity-building goals, including developing HR and organizational systems and processes that create inclusive excellence, diversity and multicultural competency and driving internal policy change.
- Partner with the internal Equity Team and support sub-committees, to oversee communications and impact reporting for initiatives.
- Organizes and provides direction to various cross-departmental committees including Equity Team, , internal benefits review/RFPs, employee events, culture and engagement.
- Provides leadership, direction, coaching and development of the HR team, and serves as coach and advisor, using an equity lens/approach, for all levels of leadership and staff throughout the organization.
- Provides thought leadership for training and development; designs and facilitates internal learning opportunities to achieve desired outcomes.
- Creates and manages departmental budget.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position is directly responsible for leading organizational change and equity efforts for the entire organization, and is indirectly responsible for all employees’ understanding and practices at the CFB.
- This position is also directly responsible for People and Culture, human resources professionals, to support the CFB’s commitment to equity and legally compliant, yet innovative human resources practices.

- Highly skilled communicator; exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills.

- Demonstrated change management abilities, strategies and best practices; proven success in implementing change across an organization.
- Time and task organization skills that ensure accountability, resourcefulness.
Education / Certifications:
- A 4-year degree from an accredited college/university in Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, or other relevant subjects.
- In the absence of a 4-year degree, a minimum of 10 years of experience in a role focused on human resources management, employee/labor relations and strategic organizational development.
- A minimum of 7 years of full-cycle human resources/DEI experience in a leadership role.
- MBA, SPHR or SHRM-SCP preferred.
- Prior, recent (within 1-5 years) non-profit organization experience preferred.
- Bi-lingual, multi-lingual including English/Spanish preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Light Work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Activity:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
