JOB SUMMARY
The Chief Academic Officer, in collaboration with the Department of Catholic Schools team, will lead the design of instructional systems to provide support to classroom teachers to ensure the effective implementation of student-centered learning and increased student achievement. The CAO will guide improvement using research-based instructional strategies and standards-based instruction. The CAO Achievement will provide principals, assistant principals and teachers with the instructional and technical assistance needed to improve classroom teaching, support teacher development, and increase student growth and achievement.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the design of a Christ-centered and rigorous curriculum – aligning the written, taught, and tested curriculum. Coordinates the development of Unit Calendars, Curriculum Maps, and aligned Resources accessible on-line.
- Coordinates the design and the implementation of the standardized testing programs for both elementary and secondary schools.
- Coordinates the use of formative assessments used on a regular and on-going basis to monitor and guide improvement of student achievement.
- Analyzes system and school student performance data to identify instructional needs to inform the Continuous Improvement Plan and to inform the strategies to positively impact student achievement.
- Works collaboratively with team members in the Department of Catholic Schools on development of a data dashboard.
- Consults with school leadership regarding formative and summative assessment data and the development of school and/or grade level instructional action plans.
- Acts as a site-based mentor for both principals and faculty to ensure data-based instructional planning and effective high quality instruction.
- Assists principal with the assessment of professional development needs and works collaboratively with the Curriculum Leadership Team and the Department of Catholic Schools to provide learning opportunities for principals and teachers to address identified needs.
- Works in collaboration with school leadership with the Department of Catholic Schools and the Director of Student Support Services to identify research-based strategies to be incorporated into individualized learning plans to support students with learning differences and research-based strategies that can be part of the school or grade level instructional action plan.
- Informs Associate Superintendents of supervisory and/or instructional concerns at respective schools and works collaboratively with the Associates to address school-based issues.
- Utilizes feedback from the Associate Superintendents, Surveys, School Visit Reports, etc. to guide the development of instructional systems and innovative and creative solutions.
- Works in collaboration with university partners to support key strategies.
- Serves as a member of the Curriculum Leadership Team.
- Serves as a member of the School Board’s Academic Affairs Committee.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Curriculum Development and/or Teaching & Instruction
- Maryland State Teacher and/or Administrator Certification
- Minimum five years full-time teaching experience, school administration experience desirable.
- Knowledge of current research-based practices in teaching and assessment.
- Practicing Catholic with a demonstrated commitment to the mission of Catholic schools.
