JOBThe Golf Course Chemical Spray Technician is responsible for mixing and applying chemicals/pesticides such as herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides through sprays, dusts, vapors, soil incorporation, or chemical application on all areas of the golf course. Requires specific training and State or Federal certification in chemical mixing and application. Work is performed under general supervision.The hiring range for this position is $21.1976-$26.4966/hourly; $44,091.00-$55,113.00 annual.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Mix and apply pesticides and fertilizers for application on all areas of the golf course and surrounding area. Prepares work area prior to beginning job and cleans area after completion of job. Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.Applies pesticides in accordance with prescribed use and in accordance with accepted industry practices and rules and requirements of regulatory agencies such as Environmental Protection, Department of Environmental Regulation, Department of Agriculture.Helps identify turf diseases to determine the appropriate course of treatment.Schedules and performs weed control and elimination procedures; organizes and prioritizes weed control inspections, maintenance and responses.Operates lawn maintenance equipment in fertilizing, mowing, edging, and weeding golf course.Operates light to heavy vehicles, tools and equipment in the application of various pesticides and lawn care functions, e.g., truck, sprayers, tractors, loader, backhoe, etc.Ensures the safe and appropriate use of various chemicals agents and substances, mixing such per label instructions and product specifications, and using in accordance with prescribed safety precautions and directions.Maintains accurate records of chemical and biological agents used, e.g., records work order logs, maintains inventory of materials, evaluates and helps prepare cost estimates for various projects.Completes all required paperwork to include work orders and monthly reports, including SDS safety sheets.All employees must model and demonstrate the City Values at all times during the course of employment; to include: Integrity, Collaboration, Innovation, Respect and Excellence.Performs other duties as assignedEssential Supervisory DutiesProvides regular recruits, hires, trains, coaches, mentors, and assigns work assignments.Provides ongoing feedback and performance evaluations for staff.Mentors, identifies and encourages training opportunities to maximize employee performance.Helps train staff and monitors training outcomes based on established training standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or GED required. Must have a pesticide applicators license or the ability to obtain one within 6 month, and 2 years of experience applying turf and landscape pesticides. Experience with aquatic pesticide application preferred but not required. Must be able to recognize sound on construction sites that indicate nearby equipment and/or safety hazardsExposure to Environmental Conditions: Will be exposed to extreme heat, cold, dry, wet, odors, smoke, loud noises, vibrations, dust or intense light and hazards normally associated with construction sites. May be exposed to chemicals including cleaners, solvents, paints and other potentially toxic agents. Work may be performed in precarious or tight spaces.Schedule: Position generally works a non-traditional work week. May be required to be available for on-call duty or attendance at after-hour eventsAdditional Working Conditions: May be exposed to work settings that vary in convenience and comfort.
