Chassis lead engineer

The Chassis lead engineer is responsible for leading all Chassis engineering and component design and release. Superior communication, leadership skills and team player approach required.

Tasks

· Product engineering leadership for design of Chassis system composed of suspension, subframes, steering, brakes, wheels and tires.

· Lead and direct the Chassis engineering team.

· Ensure that all driving dynamic, stiffnes and NHV targets and key performance indicators are delivered on time, on cost and with achieved functional targets.

· Lead Engineering daily/weekly simultaneous engineering meetings and design reviews.

· Report status, issues, escalations required in the weekly Chassis management meeting.

  • Assure all supplier formability, manufacturing readiness, assembly processing and countermeasure plans are included early in the engineering development phase.
  • Develop targets for investment (engineering and tooling) and parts costs, functional targets, requests for quote and statements of work.
  • Track and solve all Chassis open issues.
  • Lead and mentor the Chassis engineering team.

Responsibilities

· Plan for parts timing alignment with overall program timing plan and mitigation strategies as appropriate.

· Ensure the chassis system compliance with homologation and safety requirements and regulations.

· Apply budget constraints as part of the engineering design process. Create tradeoff proposals for styling and engineering, review to balance budget.

· Suggest low-cost and light weight material alternatives.

· Coordinate/develop criteria sections with integrated safety counter-measure features included.

· Ensure that all CAE functional targets are met.

Authorities

  • Report and escalate major issues immediately to hers/his superiors. Assist her/his superior in leading and supervising the team.
  • Assure cost, timing, weight, function and quality are in target.

· Represent immediate superior as required.

Experience/Education

  • Minimum 7 years Chassis design and release engineering experience.
  • 5 plus years Chassis engineering supervision experience required.
  • BSME is required, Masters or MBA a plus
  • CATIA V5/V6 cursory experience required, expert knowledge a plus.
  • Problem solving experience where problems are unusual and difficult.
  • Previous OEM and automotive experience preferred. Tier 1 supplier experience is a plus.
  • Chassis kinematics development experience required.
  • Vehicle driving dynamics expertise required.
  • Dimensional management and understanding of GD&T required.
  • Must have experience in developing and executing DFMEA and DVP’s.

· Stamping formability knowledge a plus.

· Experience with aluminum extrusions, stampings, press brakes and castings is a plus.
