Overview:

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Certified Hemodialysis Technician to join our Adult Acute Dialysis department at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center – East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN.


The Certified Hemodialysis Technician provides exceptional patient care through dialyzer reprocessing, equipment maintenance, repair and disinfecting, water treatment monitoring, and vascular access monitoring. They are also responsible for providing exceptional support to the care team while working closely with and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Schedule
: This position will be working 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours on the day/evening rotating shift. This position will also work a rotation for every other weekend.

Responsibilities/Job Description:
In this role, the Hemodialysis Technician is responsible for:
  • Assembling and preparing necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Providing direct patient care through obtaining and documenting pre-dialysis vital signs, weight and temperature as well as obtains and records post-dialysis vital signs, temperature, and weight.
  • Documenting treatment parameters and communicates patient condition and issues to the Registered Nurse.
  • Monitoring dialysis related anticoagulant according to unit protocols and prescription.
  • Calculating and adjusts fluid removal rates according to established protocols and prescription.
  • Responding appropriately to dialysis-related emergencies such as hypotensive episodes, needle displacement or infiltration, clotting episodes, blood leaks, air emboli, etc. Initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the event of a cardiac arrest.
  • Communicating emotional, medical, psychosocial, and nutritional concerns to the Registered Nurse.
  • Collaborating with the Registered Nurse in identifying and meeting patient education goals.
  • Maintaining professional conduct, good communication skills, and confidentiality in the care of patients.

    • Fosters a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience
    • 6 months experience in medical-surgical unit or similar
  • License/Certification/Registration
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician Certification issued by Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing Technology (BONENT) or Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) must be obtained within 18 months of hire
