POSITION: Cultivator
Note – Pursuant to Iowa law, all potential employees must pass a background check administered by the Iowa Department of Public Safety before Bud & Mary’s Cannabis may present an offer of employment. Failure to satisfactorily pass such background check will disqualify a potential employee from employment with Bud & Mary’s Cannabis.
SUMMARY:
Bud & Mary’s Cultivator assists the Cultivation Lead/Cultivation Manager in operating Bud & Mary’s cannabis grow operation. The Cultivator assists with day-to-day plant care. In addition, the Cultivator assists the Cultivator Manager in executing optimization strategies to increase the production of specific molecules in Bud & Mary’s Cannabis Iowa’s cannabis plants. The Cultivator is also responsible for pesticide application and fertilizer mixing.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in plant science or horticulture preferred.
- Two (2) plus years of experience in a commercial grow operation preferred but not required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with day-to-day operations in a large-scale commercial cannabis grow operation.
- Assist with the performance of all required duties in the grow operation, including, without limitation: propagating; planting; watering; cloning; transplanting; feeding plants; defoliating; cropping; topping; flushing; managing biosafety measures; trimming; packaging; disposing of waste; and managing inventory.
- Provide observations and comments to Senior Cultivator necessary to improve standard operating procedures (“SOPs”).
- Execute plant nutrient regimens.
- Assist with sampling and testing procedures, including water, media, and solution(s).
- Assist with waste disposal according to industry standards and regulatory agencies.
- Assist with the collection, quantification, and qualification of data, while following SOPs and other company policies.
- Assist with maintaining accurate daily activity records and operation logs as directed using designated software.
- Assist with managing the cleanliness and organization of all equipment present within the grow operation.
- Be on call as needed to monitor growth room alarm systems.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with reducing cost of goods sold.
- Comply with all company policies, including confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.
- Facility maintenance and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Cross training in other work areas at MPI.
- Participate in research and development process for MPI staff. Develop and incorporate new researched processes into SOPs.

- Strong project management, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints as necessary.
- Proficient in English.
PHYSICAL EFFORT NEEDED:
- Must be able to lift at least fifty (50) pounds, be on feet all day, work in hot and cold environments.
- Cannot be a tobacco user.
TYPICAL NUMBER OF DIRECT REPORTS:
- Zero (0).
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Exposed to dust, dirt, mud, varying temperatures, varying humidity levels, varying light intensities, high decibel sounds, and some solvents.
- Occasional exposure to insects, pesticides, and plant growth regulators.
- Must be able to walk, bend, kneel, and read and write numbers and letters.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
- Safety shoes, safety glasses, dust masks, ear protection, half mask respirator, various types of gloves and spraying equipment, and biosafety equipment.
TRAVEL:
- Some travel may be required for training purposes and for staying abreast of industry developments.
