Overview

The Vermont Department of Labor is seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and experienced project manager to join the operations team in the Business Office. As a Business Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating a variety of department-wide process improvement initiatives. Projects may be short-term, long-term, or ongoing. The Business Project Manager is responsible for tracking all aspects of the project and holding project participants accountable for the timeliness and completion of their tasks.
The Business Project Manager will:
- Document and analyze current state, assist in requirements gathering and design session, provide future state modeling and proposed future state proceeds and documentation.
- Facilitate project plan development, ensuring all participants are clear about the project goals, objectives, activities and outcomes.
- Independently track and facilitate/manage all required action steps to ensure timely completion.
- Engage and involve affiliated Department staff and partners, tracking their progress and providing them the support they need to successfully implement their part of the project.
- Encourage collaboration and feedback.
- Encourage creative and innovative solutions.
- Facilitate change management plans related to the projects and consider equity and access implications for those who will be impacted by the changes.
- Create training resources, like desk-aides to help Department employees understand and navigate new business processes.
- Substantial expertise and experience facilitating multiple projects from beginning to end, including problem solving and getting through or around the inevitable roadblocks with minimal supervision or direction.
- Strong writing skills that ensure the written communication/process is clear, concise and provides enough context so the reader understands the message.
- Significant experience in continuous improvement and large-system change management.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with others.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently to meet deadlines and achieve goals.
- Skilled in and experience with Microsoft 365 products, specifically Power Automate, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Outlook, and Word. Experience with DocuSign and Visio is a bonus.
This position is expected to report to the Department's central office in Montpelier. Some remote work and/or an alternative work schedule may be approved after the initial probationary/onboarding period.
The hourly rate listed in this job posting reflects the first step in a 15-step pay plan for paygrade 26. Step 1 is the normal hiring rate established for most positions in State Government. Environmental Factors
Work is performed in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree AND four (4) years or more of experience where the primary role was project management.
OR
Associate's degree AND six (6) years or more of experience where the primary role was project management.
OR
High School diploma or equivalent AND eight (8) years or more of experience where the primary role was project management.
