Position Title: Business Manager Department: Calverton Incubator
Reports to: Business Development Director Effective Date: March 2023
FLSA: Exempt
Position Summary: The Business Manager is responsible for driving the overall success of the Food Business Incubator by coordinating and providing guidelines to the FSA staff and Food Business Incubator community as well as providing client support and ensuring compliance. The Business Manager will lead through others by supporting, coaching, motivating, and delivering clear and consistent messages of best practices to the FSA staff and food business program partners in order to achieve a successful graduation from the program. They are a professional with exceptional communication, management and problem-solving skills. The Business Manager will have an entrepreneurial mindset as it relates to expanding the Food Business, Incubator awareness while fostering the growth of an internal and external marketplace, crate farm, and developing the business.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, or Finance
· Two years’ experience in retail or warehouse management and the ability to effectively develop and lead teams
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
· Advanced knowledge of financial statements and accounting
· Has a proven track of achieving sales results and demonstrates an entrepreneurial mindset
· Excellent computer skills including Excel and Word
· Experience with ERP Accounting Systems
· Good problem-solving and time-management skills
· Highly organized and detail-oriented
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with ERP Accounting Systems
· Experience with ORACLE Accounting Systems
· Working knowledge of GAAP
· Strong numeracy and analytical skills
Position Responsibilities:
· Create business action plans for the Incubator operations, strategizing how to increase and maximize business revenue streams
· Create exceptional relationships with the participating Incubator food businesses and FSA team members to ensure performance is achieving or exceeding the set targets and goals
· Ensure that financial results, metrics, KPIs, and all topics relating to business acumen are relayed to the FSA office to keep all parties aware of the Incubators performance
· Be an ambassador in developing relationships with the entire Incubator community, such as FSA Operations Manager, Facilities Manager and Office Manager, marketplace shoppers, and the food business participants in order to help drive results
· Constantly support the FSA incubator team in market place sales performance by establishing and implementing specific action plans in cooperation with the FSA corporate office team to improve sales
· Analyze the market in order to suggest improvements such as: understanding market trends and competitors to analyze and identify business opportunities/initiatives with the aim of improving sales and promoting the Food Business Incubator
· Reflect the FSA image in terms of ensuring that the FSA team is aligned with FSA’s mission
· Maintain excellent customer relationships, leading the Food Business Incubator team and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
· Take action on feedback to improve customer service
· Lead all Food Business marketing events, working in tandem with the FSA marketing team
· Communicate and manage maintenance issues to ensure safety and compliance
· Manage tenant product levels and inventory ordering to ensure they do not exceed the allocated space limits and finding solutions to effectively maintain a safe working environment
Compliance:
Ensure that all Partners have signed the following agreements:
· Revocable Access Permit Agreement with Stony Brook University that allows and governs the company’s access to the NY State facility and use of its equipment
· Stony Brook University Food Business Incubator Handbook agreement which identifies the policies, best practices, and requirements of operating at the Incubator
· Code of Conduct agreement which governs the responsibility of company principals and team members to maintain appropriate and respectful conduct as a member of the food incubation community
· Business Liability Insurance: Ensure that all incoming Partners must provide (and keep current) proof of business insurance with coverages that comply with the requirements set forth by the University.
· Worker’s Compensation Insurance: Ensure that all Partners provide (and keep current) documentation of appropriate Workers Comp insurance or exemption.
· 20-C License: Ensure that all Partners provide (and keep current) hold 20-C Licenses issued by the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets (as applicable).
· HACCP plan: Ensure that all Partners provide, or document exemption, of an appropriate HACCP plan.
· Food Manager’s Certificate: Ensure all Partners maintain a valid Food Manager’s Certificate from Suffolk County, NY.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
