Department Description
The UC Davis Regional Burn Center also known as Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center, provides comprehensive care to burn patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings as well as ongoing support through our outreach program.
The Burn Center is verified by The American Burn Association (ABA) and American College of Surgeons (ACS). The program specializes in all burns including, scald, chemical, electrical, flame burns, frost bite, burn reconstruction, inhalation injury and exfoliative disorders such as toxic epidermal necrolysis/Steven's Johnson Syndrome, and Purpura Fulminans. The department is involved in a wide spectrum of clinical research for advancing the future of burn treatment. Our program provides medical fellowships and precepted nursing experiences to educate and develop the burn surgeons and nurses to meet the upcoming demand for those expert clinicians. The Burn Centers inpatient admissions are continually increasing, and currently exceed 550 per year, with outpatient visits increasing to over 1800 appointments.
The facility has: 13,000 square feet and 12 ICU beds in private rooms overhead infrared heating panels and thermostats in each room to keep patients and the room warm, as burned skin and tissues do not regulate body temperature well. Advanced ventilation system which continually cycles and cleans air to maintain an optimal setting and help prevent infections. The Burn center includes a physical therapy treatment room, outpatient burn wound clinic and a hydrotherapy room with state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

Responsibilities
The Burn Registrar Nurse for the Burn Program has the primary responsibility to provide support for unit based and system-wide performance improvement through collaboration and coordination of various projects primarily specific to the Burn Program and across the healthcare system. The Burn Registrar Nurse combines expert clinical knowledge of health care delivery and related systems and databases with current quality improvement tools and techniques to achieve excellence in clinical outcomes and program compliance at UCDH. The Burn Registrar Nurse works closely with the Burn Program Manager, Burn Unit multidisciplinary team members, and Patient Care Services leadership to ensure delivery of appropriate and timely services to patients and other key stakeholders.
The Burn Registrar Nurse maintains compliance with national verification standards as well as local and national agencies as required. The Burn Registrar Nurse maintains data input into a burn registry data base, uploads de-identified patient data into a national burn repository as required, extracts data from the burn repository data base to support approved research, reports data as required by governmental and regulatory agencies, manages data and analytics for internal quality assurance and improvement initiatives, as well as research, maintains the alignment of orientation materials for staff with specific unit and hospital requirements, coordinates, manages, gathers and compiles, verifies, and submits all information for the verification process with the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association requirements, trains and oversees the work of support staff in the Burn Registry Office, fulfills all requests for data compilation analysis, and verification from manager and physicians, and other duties as requested by the Burn Program Manager.
This position is also responsible for applying their extensive knowledge of continuous process improvement practices, methodologies, project management and change management to develop, coordinate and execute projects and initiatives toward the achievement of organizational goals. They are a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field of expertise in specific areas; problem solving frequently requiring analysis of unique issues/problems without precedence and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources, functioning with a high degree of autonomy. This position applies skills and clinical experience as a seasoned quality data and/or improvement concepts, methodologies, and data collection and abstraction techniques to projects of a variety of scope and complexity.
The Burn Registrar Nurse works closely with the Burn Program Manager to lead performance improvement activities to ensure optimal patient outcomes and early identification of patient safety system issues.
Required Qualifications
Five (5) years in clinical experience in acute or critical care burn patient population
BSN Required, MSN or other Administrative Master’s Degree Preferred.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR or UCDH-issued CPR Certification
Possession of current California RN license
Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language
Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately

Ability to safely lift 25pounds and assist in moving patients, to stand on feet, and sit over extended periods.
Physical strength to assist in moving and/or lifting patients and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher, or CPHQ
Three (3) years in performance improvement role
Advanced ability to perform data analysis of outcomes to identify trends and/or opportunities for improvement.
Extensive database data entry and/or management experience
In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission or Accreditation for Healthcare Organization Standards and other regulatory agencies
In-depth knowledge of American College of Surgeons verification process and criteria
Special Requirements
Works overtime as defined by the collective bargaining agreements, floats to other areas and works weekends and holidays.
