CLINICAL TRANSLAT SCI (CTSI) (IN-DMCT-IUINA)

The Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) was founded in 2008 by Anantha Shekhar, MD, PhD. CTSI is recognized as a statewide institute supported by a Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) and the National Center for Advancing Translational Science.

Indiana CTSI has research partnerships with Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame which also includes life sciences, businesses and community organizations. Furthermore, Indiana CTSI engages with the public at every level of research from basic science to patient care.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Monitors and maintains the biorepository facility including associated equipment and support biorepository client use of the facility.
• Works autonomously performing daily, weekly, monthly, annual, biennial, etc. preventative maintenance, and function verification of equipment.
• Includes documentation and notification of supervisor of all out of range and negative trend results.
• Makes decisions that will affect outcomes: Application of quality practices (GCP, GLP, GMP, GDP, ISBER) to positively impact environmental/ research compliance and quality of samples used in research. Recognizes when outcomes/conditions are not as expected, performs investigations and refers to management for corrective and preventive action decisions.
• May be required to lead implementation of modifications in procedures to satisfy the corrective and preventive actions.
• Shares on-call responsibility for response to facility or equipment alarms on nights and weekends (required).

General Responsibilities

• Tracks specimens and enters data for sample processing.
• Assists with preparing samples (manual and robotic) and sample shipment to national and international destinations.
• Reviews sample reports and helps identify specimens requiring additional handling and processing.
• Works with study PIs and study coordinators to develop laboratory flow diagrams to comply with study specifications.
• Validates new equipment, maintains and monitors repository-specific equipment.

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• High school diploma or GED with 3 years of laboratory experience OR
• Bachelor's degree with 3 years of college level science

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

The role may require travel between the main campus and remote facilities.
