REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for a Behavioral Health Specialist position.

General Description

Assists Case Manager/Counselors and/or clinical staff in a County social services facility or office.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) year experience working in a social service agency, social service or community program, or community support group related to the area of assignment including six (6) months of clerical or closely related experience.

Requires a high school diploma or GED. Job-related experience may be substituted for a high school diploma or GED upon approval of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs' Area Agency on Aging (AAA).

Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess a valid FL Class E Driver’s License at time of appointment and must be able to obtain and maintain authorization to drive on County business, depending on area of assignment.

Must score at least an 80 percent on the Care plan training conducted by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs' Area Agency on Aging (AAA)s.

Preferences:
  • Possess 701B Comprehensive Assessment Certification and experience with the Florida's Department of Elder Affairs.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish, English/Creole, English/French and/or English/Portuguese.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

  • Assists case workers or other professional or clinical staff with program participant-related activities.
  • Assists in preparing case activity notes, monthly reports, or other case management documentation.
  • Connect customers with needed and available community resources.
  • Enters all collected data into computer system and processes paperwork.
  • Conduct outreach and networking services.
Performs general office duties such as filing and scanning.
Conduct customer follow-ups as needed.
Participate in case staffings and consultations.
Effectively communicate in oral and written form, and express thoughts in a logical sequence.
Communicate effectively with a variety of individuals representing diverse cultures and backgrounds and function calmly in situations, which require a high degree of sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.
Compile and summarize data tracked upon request
Compose correspondence and routine reports.
Provide prompt, efficient and responsive service.
Assist with implementing care plans
Assist with accessing medical and other appointments
Perform follow-up contacts which may include the monthly contact with the HCE caregiver for eligibility verification
Delivery of supplies and equipment
Assist the client or caregiver in compiling information and completing applications for other services and public assistance
Facilitate linkages of providers with recipients via telephone contacts and visits
Determine client satisfaction with services provided
Ability to work independently and in teams
Ability to multi task and prioritize
Performs related work as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
