Position is responsible for repairing vehicles and other motorized equipment. Performing scheduled maintenance on vehicles in accordance with instructions and checklist. Troubleshooting and completing preventive maintenance, such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotations and changes, wheel balancing, and replacing filters.


Essential Accountabilities:

  • Identifies problems with vehicles using the diagnostic equipment.
  • Explains automotive repairs and issues and provides exceptional customer service.
  • Tests the functionality of parts and systems.
  • Performs basic auto care and maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid level checks, and tire rotation.
  • Repairs and replaces brake pads, wheel bearings, sensors, and other parts.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs vehicle automotive systems, including engine, transmission, electrical steering, suspension, brakes, and air conditioning.
  • Performs routine maintenance and general mechanic work on vehicles.
  • Helps keep repair shop clean and organized.
  • Responsible for Shop Services billing.
  • Ensures orders are properly entered and received in stock.
  • Executes repairs under warranty to manufacturer specifications.
  • Understands and follows federal, state and local regulations.
  • Documents all work performed clearly and accurately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM (subject to change to accommodate the needs of the department)


Starting Pay Range: $17.10 - $22.25 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)


Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience required. Candidates with auto mechanic training are encouraged to apply.


Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification or obtain within twelve (12) months of employment.

Must Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to perform the job responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Math, reading, and basic computer skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to learn new technology, repair and service procedures and specifications, and prepared to get additional certification as needed
  • Working knowledge of shop equipment and able to operate electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with a team
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to read, interpret and transcribe data in order to maintain accurate records

Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position in a timely manner to include:

  • Lifting, pulling, and carrying product, equipment and supplies up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Performing tasks requiring bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
  • Working at heights, in confined spaces and within extreme temperature ranges and noise

This is a fast-paced service department with a large customer base, so a person who is able to stay mentally engaged is key to delivering a good customer service experience.
