- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program
- Ability to manage budget and personnel
- Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band and extracurricular activities
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Organizes the instruction of instrumental music classes or sections as assigned.
- Assists with the Head Band Director to assure a consistent developmental program within the District curriculum.
- Encourages all students to develop their individual musical abilities.
- Provides classroom and performance experiences which encourages responsibility, self-discipline and respect for group participation.
- Provides encouragement and information for talented students considering music as a profession.
- Maintains accurate records of student progress and attendance.
- Assists in the operation of the band program.
- Cooperates with the private lesson programs.
- Participates in scheduling and preparing for performances, programs and competitions.
- Assists in supervising rehearsals.
- Assist with record keeping for funds received and disbursed.
- Assists with the selection of music and maintenance of the band library.
- Assists with suggestions for budgeting and requisitions.
- Cooperates in sponsoring the competitive aspects of the program.
- Assists with preparation of students for competition
- Assists with transportation and supervision of students during performances and competitions.
- Assists with plans for informing parents about performances and competitions.
- Assists with plans for reporting results of competitions.
- Exemplifies citizenship, sportsmanship and professionalism in behavior and performance of duties.
- Promotes community understanding of the music program through communication with parents and concern for students.
- Encourages interest in the band program by presenting activities of interest to parents and students.
- Assists in working with the Band Booster organization.
- Remains current in the area of instrumental music education through professional organizations, literature, workshops and in-service programs.
- Complies with the position description for the classroom teacher.
- Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the principal, the Head Band Director and the Director of Performing and Visual Arts.

The Assistant High School Band Director is responsible for implementing the District instructional programs and educational philosophy of instrumental music for grades nine through twelve in cooperation with the High School Head Band Director.
MAJOR REPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
