Associate Chemist
MRIGlobal is seeking a highly motivated person to join our Physical Sciences Resource Center as an Associate Chemist. The Associate Chemist will become an integral part of our team and will receive vital experience with research and development, while gaining a thorough understanding of relevant federal programs, QA/Safety/SOPs, and instrumentation. Primary assignments will include (1) analytical standards and sample preparation, (2) performing method development and sample analysis using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) and Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS), and (3) preparation of research reports, including collection and organization of experimental data and literature searches. The position requires the ability to work with chemical and select agents and other toxic chemicals while adhering to strict safety and procedural protocols.

Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Chemistry or related field (Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics) is required with 2 to 3 years of experience; this is an entry level role; or a M.S. in Chemistry or related field with 0 to 2 years of experience.
  • Knowledge and proven hands-on experience operating GC/MS and/or LC/MS instrumentation. It would be beneficial to have experience with:
  • Agilent GC/MS, Agilent LC/MS/MS,
  • Waters LC/MS/MS technology,
  • Data acquisition software like Empower, Analyst, MassHunter, MassLynx, and EZChrom
  • Willingness to work with highly toxic materials.
  • Willing to assume responsibility for laboratory areas to meet all safety and security requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude. Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for all aspects of job assignments.
  • Demonstrate creative problem resolution; meets client expectations in a timely fashion.
  • Well organized and methodical, yet flexible to changing priorities. Manages time well.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously either in structured or non-structured work environment.
  • Proficient PC skills and ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. In order to meet the government security investigation requirements, U.S. citizenship is a requirement.
