SUMMARY

Provides assistance to the director in the operation, planning, and coordination of Valley Career and Technical Center (VCTC) and Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School (SVGS).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and behavior
  • Promotes and model a growth mind-set with interest in life-long learning, individual development, and collaboration among students and staff for VCTC and SVGS.
  • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and establishes effective professional rapport when working with students, staff and other stakeholders
  • Maintains confidentiality and protects student and staff information in accordance with school policy
  • Participates in development, implementation, operation, supervision and evaluation of VCTC and SVGS programs
  • Supervises student conduct, monitors attendance, administers school discipline plan in a fair and consistent manner and provides appropriate interventions
  • Works with students, parents, staff, and division personnel to provide support, guidance and counsel as needed to promote student and staff growth and development
  • Supervises school building and property to monitor safety and security or directs and coordinates teacher supervision
  • Coordinates testing program and assists with data reporting (i.e. CTE credential testing)
  • Arranges for and oversees substitute teachers.
  • Evaluates and supervises instructional personnel as assigned
  • Works to facilitate and grow partnerships with business, industry, community and institutions of higher education
  • All other duties assigned by Director

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the director in the evaluation of instructional personnel as assigned by the director.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent. or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Hold the Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement as principal.


At least four years of successful, full-time experience as a teacher or supervisor at the secondary level.
