POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Manager of Medical Services supports patients in Fora Health’s residential substance use treatment program. This role is critical in ensuring that patients receive medications in a safe and efficient manner and that staff facilitating med pass have appropriate training and oversight. Time permitting, this role may participate in policy and procedure development as well as health education for residential patients. This position also supports the Manager of Medical Services in the scheduling and supervision of nursing staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversight medication administration in residential
- Support Residential Counselors (RCs) with safe and efficient medication distribution by reviewing med pass documentation and answering questions about policies and procedures.
- Write incident reports (IRs) for med errors and reviews with relevant staff and leadership. Respond to IRs addressing medications in residential that are written by other staff.
- Provide initial med pass training to new hires and conduct final med pass review after RCs have been trained by residential staff.
- Conduct skills checks and additional training with residential counselors as needed.
- Build strong, strengths-based relationships with residential staff and facilitate communication between medical and residential teams.
- Review and update medical policy and procedures in residential treatment.
- Attend management meetings relevant to medical presence in residential care.
Oversight of medications in residential
- Review medications for all residential admits, track medications in transit from pharmacies or other sources, and communicate delays or problems to patients and staff.
- Communicate with patients who are requesting information about medications, policies, refills, missing medications, injections.
- Ensure consistent availability of medication through regular medication audit and proactive ordering of refills, under direction of LIP.
- Remove and dispose of discontinued medications.
- Communicate with pharmacy about medication concerns, disruptions, or delays.
Medical support and triage for residential services
- Communicate with outside providers as needed.
- Support the Medical Services Manager in providing injections for both residential and outpatients.
- Review AVS summaries from residential patients returning to Fora after attending outside appointments or urgent care/ED visits.
- Meet with new residential admissions, assess current medical conditions and medications, and determine if further evaluation is required prior to admission.
- Offer health education in group setting.
Supervisory functions
- Assist the Manager of Medical Services to provide staff coverage for withdrawal management program 24/7 within, but not exceeding required staff: patient ratio.
- Provide on call support for staffing concerns in withdrawal management program, schedule TBD, at least every 3rd weekend.
- Support nursing staff by phone consultation when Manager is unavailable.
- Model trauma-informed and person-centered patient care and communication with an emphasis on harm reduction.
- Document supervisory issues with staff.
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Proactively identify barriers to effective medication administration systems and works with residential and medical staff to address them.
- Maintain quality treatment services that are responsive to client needs and reflect best practices.
- Establish a therapeutic environment in which staff works together so that clients' needs, individual circumstances, and culture determine the optimal clinical approach. Oversees operational aspects of clinical tasks and roles and provides strategic advice/direction to functionalize the service delivery model.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Registered Nursing License for State of Oregon (RN or LPN) BLS certified.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Communicates information effectively in writing and verbally.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Displays initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate knowledge of substance-use disorders.
- Marked ability to demonstrate and utilize self-awareness.
- Intermediate understanding of mental health disorders and symptom presentation.
- Intermediate understanding of trauma-informed care and principles of harm reduction.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Verification of Sobriety, per Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) standards.
- DHS Background Check Approval or alternate Criminal History Check agency approval.
- Successful completion of Drug Test upon hire.
- Documentation of Tuberculin test and/or evaluation with negative results or evidence of non-communicability.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
