BACKGROUND
Founded in 2007, Carmen Schools of Science and Technology (Carmen), is a nationally recognized, high performing public charter school network of schools serving more than 2,300 students in grades K4-12th grade across five campuses in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. POSITION SUMMARY
Carmen seeks a proven leader to serve as the Assistant Director of Career Readiness, a mission critical role to our students' success in graduating prepared for success in college and family sustaining careers. The Assistant Director of Career Readiness works in collaboration with the Director of Career Programs and Partnerships to set the vision for students' development of essential career readiness skill, mindsets, and habits, leads the planning and implementation of Career Readiness Seminars, manages the vetting and selection of tools and resources used to enhance students' skill development, and a guides caseload of students through their self-discovery and career exploration journey.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year university required.
- Demonstration of entrepreneurial mindset including innovation and desire to continuously improve.
- Minimum 4 years experience working with high school or college students in internships or apprenticeships. Experience in STEM-focused fields, preferred.
- Experience with charter schools and/or with students in low-income environments, preferred.
- Demonstrated success in helping students develop critical career readiness skills, mindsets, and habits.
- Belief and commitment to our mission, being a change agent, and a growth mindset that all students are capable of getting to and through college.
- Demonstrated success engaging community partners to provide students with training and experiences that will further develop their career readiness skills, mindsets, and habits
- Effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders, both written and verbal, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with career technical programs, preferred.
- Experience leading a high performing team, preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Career Readiness Programming (Campus Level)
- Manage a modified caseload of students to ensure they are on-track to meeting Career Readiness outcomes at each grade-level
- Collaborate with Career Readiness Coordinator(s) and College Transition Coordinator(s) to support 12th graders in applying for and securing a role that leads to family-sustaining careers
Career Readiness Programming (Network Wide)
- Plan and lead the implementation of Career Readiness Seminars across all three Carmen High Schools.
- Develop the annual calendar and objectives/focus areas for 10th and 11th grade Career Readiness Seminars that develop essential career readiness skills
- Develop lesson plans and resources to guide the facilitation of Career Readiness Seminars, and collaborate with CRCs to lead and facilitate Career Readiness Seminars
- Establish a process for ongoing reflection with a focus on continuous improvement of Career Readiness Seminars
- Collaborate with local partners and volunteers to support Career Readiness Seminars to provide additional connections and social capital for Carmen students
- Plan and facilitate professionalism training for students participating in signature programs to ensure they are successful in their pursuits and represent Carmen in a positive light.
- Serve as primary point of contact for English and Grammar Composition teachers to develop and and implement curriculum for students leading up to annual Mock Interviews
- Lead a bi-monthly meeting of Career Readiness Coordinators to discuss and align on best practices for achieving team Career Readiness goals for students
- Support Career Readiness Coordinators in cultivating student and staff spaces that celebrate student successes, promote Career Exploration Enrichment opportunities, provide resources and tools for career readiness skill development, and the systems and procedures necessary to connect with and guide students throughout the school day and year
Campus Team Leadership
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director(s) of College Transition, plan and facilitate regular College and Career Team meetings to align on programming, event planning, and communication (campus- and network-based)
- Regularly meet to coordinate and align with School Leadership re: programming, calendar events, communication, and outcomes. Ensure positive communication and alignment between the College and Career team and the operations and academic teams so that all relevant parties remain informed and clear about responsibilities with any events/programs supporting students toward post-secondary success.
- Coordinate with DoCIs, Deans, Advisory and Grade Level Leads to ensure collaboration and support of career readiness initiatives
- Take lead ownership of campus metrics, ensuring continuous improvement and rigorous progress monitoring against critical milestones, performance goals, and outcomes
- Supervise campus-based Career Readiness Coordinator and support their growth and development to achieve desired student outcomes
- Coordinate and support Parent Conferences with School Leaders
