Our organization is seeking a caring and responsible Child Care Center Assistant Director with a genuine love for working with children. The position will require the candidate to provide daily oversight of the educational and administrative aspects of our Early Childhood Education Program when the site director is absent or off-site.
Job Schedule
Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6:00 pm
Responsibilities
- Provide a welcome to parents at the beginning and end of the day; facilitate center communications to parents in absence of the director
- Circulate among classrooms to ensure teaching staff are supported; engage in observations of classrooms
- Communicate any unusual situations to Executive Director
- Ensure daily record-keeping including child and staff attendance and food service records
- Ensure schedule is followed for the day
- Ensure that safety protocols are observed in classrooms and on outings
- Notify Executive Director of any site visits from OCFS; support unannounced visits as needed
- Plan Break Schedules to provide coverage for all classrooms
- Assist with Daily Coverage of classrooms as needed
- Substitute in classroom when staff is absent
- Enforce regulations and policies for families and staff (excessive lateness, submission of required document updates, etc.)
- Perform administrative tasks as needed, as assigned by Executive Director (may include: checking children and staff files for completion, organizing supplies)
- Implement the curriculum and daily activities.
- Supervise and manage the classroom.
- Maintain a safe environment at all times.
- Maintain professional attitudes and loyalty to the school.
- Participate in weekly team meeting for classroom planning and updates.
- Maintain confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
- Conduct yearly screenings of all children.
- Supervise outside play yard activities.

- Must be able to handle working on multiple projects at once
- Knowledge of DOE UPK, Day Care and Early Learn Policies and Procedures
- Knowledge of CACFP preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task
- Must have the ability to prioritize work load
Computer Skills Needed:
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Knowledge of ProCare or willingness to learn
- Basic Computer Troubleshooting/Printer Troubleshooting skills preferred but not required
- Basic knowledge of emailing and using phone apps to communicate with families.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and bend up to 30lbs
- Ability to get down on the floor and play outside with the children
- Ability to push and pull up to 30lbs
- Occasional travel to training sessions
- Ability to travel between ECE sites as needed.
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time

- 2 years + Early Childhood Teaching (Preferred)
