Purpose
The Application Engineer is the key engineering liaison for Dana’s OpenECU platform of embedded controllers. The successful candidate will build on experience in embedded control system development to become expert in various applications of the OpenECU product line and be able to advise customers on its use. This position provides a broad exposure to many different customer applications and systems – from basic communication protocols to complex EV powertrain systems, and even full vehicle interface controls. The application engineer will work with the broader engineering teams to train users, customize products, and find solutions to the most challenging problems. Your workplace will be very dynamic, fast-paced and will include many different tasks –requiring a high level of customer service and satisfaction.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Software, Control Systems, or related field)
- 2+ years of experience of developing embedded control systems, working with industry standard development processes & tools
- Experience with software development in Matlab/Simulink and/or C.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to customer queries received from Dana’s OpenECU support portal
- Provide technical product assistance to both internal and external customers
- Collaborate closely with Systems, Hardware, and Software engineering teams for rapid response to field issues
- Create training materials and facilitate product training to internal and external customers
- Support new product introduction and troubleshooting field issues
- Create and maintain sample code, example applications, and user documentation
- Drive improvements to the OpenECU product
Nice to have:
- Experience in the automotive or transportation industry is preferred
- Experience with rapid-prototyping tools and/or HIL (eg: Motohawk, Micro Autobox, OpenECU, dSpace HIL etc.)
- Basic electrical/electronics circuit knowledge
- Experience with CAN communications and diagnostics protocols (CCP, J1939, UDS, OBDII)
- Experience with calibration tools, e.g. Vector CANape, ATI Vision, ETAS INCA
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to identify and resolve issues and challenges.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills required in English (being multilingual is a plus)
- Strong organization, scheduling, and facilitation skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and goals
- A team player, who is both flexible and creative in their approach to problem solving
