I Accountability Objectives:

Assists in maintenance and minor repairs of anesthesia equipment and supplies . Responsible for the inventory of anesthetic supplies and equipment. Maintains work and storage rooms for Department of Anesthesiology.

II Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required.

A. Education

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent required.

B. Licensure / Certification

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification .

C Special Skill / Aptitudes

  • In accordance with established body mechanics/safety procedures, ability to stoop, push, pull, bend and lift.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with all members of the department as well as various levels of hospital personnel.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply factual materials presented in orientation classes and during on the job training in order to gain knowledge of aseptic techniques and universal precautions specific to anesthesia.
  • Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

D. Experience

  • Knowledge of operating room routines and familiarity with medical terminology are necessary.
  • Previous anesthesia technician or aide experience preferred .

III Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Sets up I.V. Fluids, pressure lines, monitors and other requested equipment for anesthesia procedures. Sets up equipment and supplies for anesthetic procedures. Checks all anesthesia machines according to protocol, daily. Keeps equipment in working order.
  • Cleans and sets up regional anesthesia trays. Maintains an adequate inventory of disposable regional trays in the department.
  • Maintains inventory of anesthesia machines and carts throughout the Hospital. Keeps inventory of supplies in the anesthesia store and work rooms.
  • Orders supplies and equipment as necessary. Puts away all supplies brought to the department. Checks storage cupboards replacing used supplies daily .
  • Maintains a supply and equipment notebook for the Department which includes:
    • inventory of equipment and supplies
    • log of service on all equipment
    • log of problems with equipment, supplies and monitors
    • log of all anesthesia equipment and monitors being used in other departments of the hospital.
  • Cleans anesthesia machines, anesthesia tables and carts weekly.
  • Cleans storage cupboards monthly. Washes, sterilizes and cleans equipment.
  • Cleans equipment as necessary between cases.

  • In accordance with unit or departmental practice, determines that appropriate charges have been entered for the correct patient, encounter, date/time of service, with any required modifiers. Make corrections as needed per charge capture policy/practice.
  • In accordance with unit or departmental practice, actively participates in on-going education and communication regarding revenue management.
  • In accordance with unit or departmental practice, assists with tracking and monitoring of equipment assigned to the unit. Requests services for maintaining equipment as needed.
  • In accordance with unit or departmental practice, proficient with the electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management, performing these activities concurrently with provision of care throughout the shift
