What The Role Is
Reporting to the Sr. Director, New Business & Product Origination, the Analyst, Origination - New Business & Product Development is responsible for developing and implementing new products and enhancing the existing product suite for Clearway’s utility-scale solar and wind portfolio. The role will also aid in the ideation, development, and execution of new business lines at Clearway.
What You'll Be Doing
- Stay up to date on key regulatory (state and federal), market (associations and industry), and competitive developments (key deals, new products, M&A) in key territories impacting the future of renewable development opportunities and provide analysis and actionable recommendations for the business on a prescribed schedule
- Develop/maintain a network of key industry contacts (brokers, consultants, industry colleagues) to gain further market depth and collectively advocate for Clearway and industry objectives
- Coordinate closely with Wholesale and Commercial Origination, Development, Business Development, Asset Management, Legal, and other relevant teams to better understand strengths and opportunities for improvement for our existing product suite and propose possible solutions
- Take steps to thoroughly understand all existing and future revenue streams and opportunities to further commercialize through unique, demand-oriented clean energy solutions
- Propose initial product concepts by researching competitive landscape and target customer’s business strategy and needs
- Coordinate with External Affairs, Legal, and other stakeholders to advocate for any relevant internal or external legal or regulatory policies that furthers Clearway’s business objectives
- Contemplate all aspects of Wholesale and Commercial Origination in new product development process, including outreach, originating, structuring, pricing, contracting, and closing
- Propose, coordinate, and lead new product approval, implementation, and execution that includes customer demand picture, customer outreach, volume targets, and implications for: revenue, finance, legal, IT, and operations
- Present on status of projects and key metrics to senior leadership on a prescribed schedule or an ad-hoc basis
- Participate in energy working groups, professional organizations, trade shows & conferences
- Exhibit expertise and continual growth of knowledge in power markets and act as a resource to the Business Development and Project Development teams
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree required; business, economics, engineering, mathematics, or related degree is preferred
- 2+ years of experience in renewable energy, renewable business development, or retail energy
- 1 + years of experience with commercial/wholesale origination or renewable product development
- Proven experience in performing quantitative and qualitative analysis of assets that produce a predictable, long-term stream of cash and tax attributes
- Thorough understanding of wholesale power markets including: PJM, ISONE, NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO
- Understanding of renewable (wind & solar) development, modeling, and common financing structures
- Completed and closed various forms of either wholesale or corporate/commercial bi-lateral power contracts and understanding of common PPA structures and hedging strategies
- Familiarity and knowledge of various product structures and concepts including, but not limited to: CFE product offerings, behind the meter solutions, flexible load, REC/Carbon Offset solutions, and scope emissions
- Attention to detail and inclination towards structure, organization, and process – as well as the ability to examine, question, and improve on the inputs and recommendations of others.
- Organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent efforts, track progress and needs of each, and provide high-quality deliverables accurately and on time
- Aptitude for analytical and financial modeling with demonstrated attention to detail – previous experience is required and command of Excel and PowerPoint is essential
- Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities and deadlines
