Job Opening Summary
This position is responsible for performing all registration functions, including the creation or confirmation of a medical record and/or account number. This position expedites and provides health care access through the accurate gathering of demographic, sponsorship or guardian data, insurance, financial and statistical information from a variety of sources, i.e., patients, patients' families, physicians, physician office staff, and county and/or government agencies. Takes an active role in decreasing account receivables by following established guidelines, regulations and policies during the registration process to increase the facility's first-pass yield percentage and decrease account denials. Contributes to the facility point of service by collecting any monies due at the time of service. This position ensures reimbursement for services being rendered through verification of insurance eligibility/benefits, obtaining insurance authorization within required time frame, identification and collection of patient financial obligation and point of service collections. This position will use third-party payer resources, such as websites, to verify eligibility, gain authorizations and check financial obligation of the patient. This position is responsible for obtaining the necessary signatures for consent for treatment, financial responsibility agreements and HIPAA requirements. Consults and communicates with other hospital departments, as required, to maintain efficient patient care.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum high school graduate or equivalent.
- College-level work and a working knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology are preferred.
- Minimum of one year of clerical experience in a patient/public contact setting or six months of experience in a health-related business office or with third-party payor group.
- Must have experience which demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, recognize and react to changing priorities, make timely and accurate judgment decisions and work independently of direct supervision.
- Proficiency in applications, as well as demonstrated ability to work with multiple computer systems, is preferred.
- Typing skill and familiarity with computers is a must-have for this position.
- Must demonstrate exceptional verbal, analytical and written communication skills.
- Must be adaptable, tactful and able to work well under pressure.
- Must demonstrate an understanding of "first impression" position and the need for appropriate dress, attitude and concern associated with the position.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
- Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "non-frequent driver."
NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Please indicate the appropriate operator designation on the Request for Personnel (RFP) form at the time a RFP is submitted to post the position.
