Brief Summary of Job Duties
Morgan State University is seeking a Grant Accountant. The Grant Accountant will report directly to the Director and Assistant Director of Restricted Funds Accounting in the Division of Finance & Management, which manages $30 million to $100 million (this includes financial aid and HEERF funding).
The Grant Accountant will be responsible for fiscal matters related to assigned grants and contract awards, in accordance with sponsoring agency policies and The Uniform Guidance Regulations 2 CFR Part 200. The Grant Accountant will perform accounting functions for all assigned restricted funded awards. They are responsible for reviewing monthly expenses posted to the GL for awards; prepare financial and Closeout reports, and assist with preparing documents for audit reviews. This position works closely with internal management, external agencies, fellow grant accountants; budget officers and principle investigators:

- Responsible primarily for preparing the monthly invoices and quarterly drawdowns for the assigned grants and contracts
- Responsible for the fiscal and administrative functions of Federal, State, City & private grants and contracts
- Reconcile the program/grant general ledgers and prepare necessary journal entry corrections to ensure proper month end close and compliance with all GAAP, Federal OMB, grant/contract standards and guidelines
- Maintain compliance with grant and contract agreements while working to improve systems, processes and protocols
- Review and prepare necessary journal entries for salary distribution adjustments and or other cost transfers and correcting entries
- Work closely with Grant Team, School Budget Officers and Principal Investigators on monthly GL activity reconciliations, modifications and contract/grant matching requirements
- Coordinate and support audits/reviews and site visits by sponsoring agencies and independent auditors, preparation of contract and grant related schedules and A-133 audit requests
- Other special projects, reporting and analysis as requested
Requested Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION
A Bachelors Degree from an Accredited College or University, in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance or a related field.
EXPERIENCE :
Four years of directly related experience in accounting operations management and finance.
Requirements
Demonstrated work experience, understanding of JTR, FAR, and Uniformed Guidance related to Higher Education
Advanced Excel Skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP and Logic Functions -. referred
Accuracy/precision in math, strong analytical skills, organized, team player, able to meet deadlines while working independently
Able to analyze and clearly communicate complex issues, verbally and in writing – Required

Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from an accredited college or university will be given preferences. with 5 to 10 years of Grants Management experience in a Higher Education environment is also preferred.
