Residential Life is a Student Affairs department located within On-Campus Housing. Residential Life works closely with Housing and Hospitality Services (HHS) to provide students comfortable and convenient affordable housing and to enhance student opportunities for academic success, community building, personal growth, and leadership development.Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Academics & First Year Experience Coordinator will oversee various projects related to programmatic, administrative and policy implications within the Academics and First Year Experience Unit of Residential Life and the residential community of over 23,000 students.
The position serves as a recognized special resource within the department and to the campus in the content areas listed above. Content assignments will be made on an annual basis as department priorities are identified.
The Academics & First Year Experience Coordinator is a passionate and committed live-on Student Affairs generalist, who is charged with creating inclusive communities that support the academic mission of the institution. The Academics & First Year Experience Coordinator's primary objectives include bridging academic support and the residential experience through collaboration with campus partners, in addition to supporting students' academic success through study hall proctoring. The Academics & First Year Experience Coordinator will have primary oversight for the department's academic programmatic initiatives and curricular activities that impact over 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students living in University-owned housing. Many of these programs happen in the evenings and over weekends. The coordinator will also oversee the after-hours study hall proctoring that the unit supports in partnership with UCLA Dining and in University Apartments North and will supervise one contract employee.
They will act as a hub for activities related to the content areas including meeting management, serving as programmer and event adviser for staff and student programmers within the assigned content area, serve on departmental committees, and support the cross-campus initiatives. The Academics & First Year Experience Coordinator will live on campus to facilitate and oversee after-hours academic and first-year initiated programming, oversee and assess study spaces, and supervise proctors.
The Academics & First Year Experience Coordinator must be able to work independently and with others to manage multiple constituents and multiple priorities. This requires effective skills in planning, organization, coordination, resource allocation, delegation, and adaptability. The ability to advise others and manage several projects entails the understanding of a dynamic environment and changing organizational context. The incumbent will have developed skills to analyze information, identify alternatives and exercise innovation with ingenuity and resourcefulness in selecting appropriate solutions or directions.

Working knowledge and a theoretical understanding of student development and community development.

Master's degree in higher education or related field.
