Welder
Purpose of the Position:
This position is responsible for completing Qualification Weld Tests and in some cases, Certification Tests depending on the production line. Welders perform various tasks that can also vary depending on plant location. They have a key role in the manufacture of carbon/stainless steel and aluminum products and subassemblies using various tools and equipment.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Maintains logs and records of units received and shipped within the SAP software, including rejected/discarded materials.
- Utilize SAP Software for moving in-process materials & finished materials into and out of inventory.
- Perform- pre-operational equipment, preventative maintenance tasks, and process inspections.
- Perform quality and safety functions per the Quality and Safety Program schedules.
- Follow protocols & procedures outlined in the safety and operations manuals.
- Report maintenance and quality opportunities with shift coordinator &/or Production Supervisors.
- Interface with plant SAP system to assure inventory control, lot traceability and tracking.
- Maintains a clean, safe and orderly work area.
Welder Specific Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Receive, inspect & document all types of materials, chemicals and items coming into the plant, in accordance & compliance with customer specifications and quality control.
- Measure and visually inspect products for surface and dimension defects to ensure conformance to specifications, using prevision measuring instruments.
- Own and help improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Performance.
- Carbon Steel/Aluminum/Stainless Steel MIG and/or TIG Weld at a level that meets quality standards.
- Position and secure workpieces on machines and start feeding mechanisms.
- Turn valves and dials of machines to regulate pressure, temperate and speed and feed rates and to set cycle times.
- Read specifications, blueprints and work orders to determine setups, temperatures and timing settings required to weld.
- Basic operator preventative maintenance for welding related equipment.
- Maneuvering in tight and small spaces.
- Work at heights of 15-20ft as required.
- Wear approved PPE equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses with side shields, respirators, welding helmets and gear, hearing protection, etc.
- Obtain and move specified patterns to workstations, manually or using hoists and secure patterns to machines using wrenches.
- Perform maintenance work such as cleaning and oiling machines.
- Maintain stocks of machine parts and machining tools at station.
- Support other in process areas as necessary.
- Inspect machinery per inspection schedule and clean/upkeep equipment as needed.
- Follow all workplace safety guidelines.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Self-motivated with ability to allow constructive feedback to grow in position.
- (6) months working experience as welder or education in the field of welding preferred or be willing to train and learn.
- Ability to follow proper quality and workplace safety procedures and requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for an extended period of time.
- An established track record of reliability.
- Mechanically inclined, drive yourself to continually grow and develop your role.
- Ability to adapt and accommodated to change.
- Detail oriented.

This job operates within a manufacturing plant environment. Safety, environmental and health concerns may demand constant attention. While performing the duties for this job inside the plant, the employee is frequently exposed to normal working conditions for a manufacturing plant with a noise level that is moderate to loud noise. The role routinely using machinery equipment, forklifts, computers as well as laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time as well as use hands or fingers to reach or handle, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 or more pounds. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. On occasion, employees must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to machinery and moving parts, airborne particles including grain dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which may require the use of PPE. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, extreme temperature changes in the plant from normal temperatures to above normal temperatures, extended seasonal hours, high precarious places and confined spaces. The noise level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection.

- Basic operator preventative maintenance for welding related equipment
- Maneuvering in tight and small spaces
- Work at heights of 15-20 ft.
- Performs additional work as assigned by the Supervisor or Coordinator. This may require the employee to flex into another department
- Wear approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses with side shields, respirators, hearing protection, etc.
- Complete assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices. This includes regard to individual safety, the safety of co-workers and the safe use of equipment in the workplace

Qualifications:
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Must pass Weld Tests associated with product line, prior to welding in production

Knowledge, Training, Skills and/or Experience:
Experience and education in the field of welding is preferred. However, it is not required. Here at Wabash, we provide you the training necessary for you to become comfortable using the equipment for this position. Upon receiving an offer letter from us, you'll undergo orientation and several days of training, preparing you for the production floor and your new career at Wabash.
