Northwest AEA provides special education and school improvement services to 34 public school districts and 32 accredited, non-public schools. The agency serves 45,000 students and more than 5000 educators in a 10-county area of Northwest Iowa (Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O'Brien, Plymouth, Cherokee, Woodbury, Ida, Monona, and Crawford).

Qualifications:

  • State of Iowa teacher license with appropriate certification
    • Instructional Strategist I (5-12) or K-12 Instructional Strategist II (BD/LD OR ID).

Job Purpose: Serve as a teacher for a juvenile home education program at either a detention center or shelter care facility.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop appropriate curriculum.
  • Develop individual student programs of study.
  • Provide direct instruction and tutorial assistance for students.
  • Provide for a positive and productive classroom environment.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with facility staff, schools and related agencies.
  • Provide anecdotal documentation of daily program and student progress.
  • Seek and provide appropriate student information with home school districts.
  • Provide student achievement reports to schools and other appropriate individuals and agencies.
  • Implement appropriate individualized education programs (IEPs).
  • Compile required program statistical data and reports.
  • Communicate pertinent information in a timely manner at all levels of responsibility.
  • Participate in periodic program effectiveness review and planning.
  • Understand current and emerging trends and participate in appropriate staff development.
  • Serve on NWAEA and other committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned

A transfer shall be considered a change in an employee’s assigned region (East, North, West). Assigned regions are based on the school buildings/districts, including non-public PK-12 buildings, to which an employee is assigned. Certified employees not assigned to specific districts/schools will have “Agencywide” as their assigned region.
